Hello!  It’s time for a new color challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches.  This week we have a nice winter-inspired trio of colors for you to work with.

I decided to use these cute birdies, and I colored them in the two shades of purple using colored pencils blended with odorless mineral spirits.  To get the sky background around the birds, I put a mask over the birds, and framed them with a circular mask.  Then I blended some sky blue ink into the circle.  I’d used the circular mask with red ink several years ago so I was a little surprised that the red ink reactivated and blended with the sky blue to form a purple edge to the circle – however, since it worked with the challenge colors, it’s a happy accident!
