Happy Friday! It’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! We have a fun theme for our challenge this week – create a card for a child. It can be for any occasion, so long as it’s appropriate for a child.  You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, February 28.

I’ve actually created a trio of cards for this challenge. I was inspired to do multiple cards by Leslie’s OWH Virtual Card Making Party challenge, which was to use one sheet of 12″ x 12″ designer paper to create at least 6 cards using a certain OWH Stars & Stamps sketch. Well, I got halfway there before I started running out of time to get this blog post written.  So I’ll share what I have.  For my 12″ x 12″ paper, I decided to part ways with one of the designs from the Basic Grey “Phoebe” collection.  I used scraps from the coordinating 6″ x 6″ paper pad to paper piece the bears because I wasn’t in a mood to color with markers.  I kept the cards a consistent theme with Rhubarb the bear images and bear-related sentiments.  I added some linen thread for the balloon strings on the birthday card.  I used a scrap from a different 6″ x 6″ pad for the darker brown Rhubarb on the ice cream cone card.  I had to make that bear darker so the cone would show up against his tummy.  I’ve changed things up a little on the cards by varying the width of the vertical strip, and the length of the sentiment panel, and by adding mats and using pop dots to attach Rhubarb on a couple of the cards.

Be sure to see what the other Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge Design Team members have created for this challenge.  Then go make a card for a child, and share it with us!

One last thing… congratulations to Snoopy!  She’s won the blog candy I offered in last week’s Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge post.  I’ll be sending a note to her via the email message she left in her comment.

Supplies for today’s cards:

Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); “Ashbury Street” and various scraps from Phoebe collection (Basic Grey); scrap from Pyrus 6″ x 6″ paper pad (BG)
Ink: printer ink
Other: dimensionals, linen thread (Stampin’ Up)

Hello!  It’s Friday!  And because it’s the third Friday of the month, it’s New Digi Release Day at Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps!   Lots of great new digital stamp sets are being introduced today – four adorable bunny rabbit images, a set of sentiments, and a set of springtime images such as butterflies, bees and a flower.  The rest of the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge design team and I are showcasing different ones today, so please check out everyone’s blogs so you can see all the fun new stuff!  Be sure to leave a comment on each of the design team members’ blogs, too – one of us is a mystery blogger, and one person who comments on her blog post will be chosen at random to receive the entire new release!  Links are over in the left sidebar, but if you lose track while visiting around, you can always go back to the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge blog and start anew.  And yes – there are lots of new links over there because we have five new design team members!  Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Lawren Folkes, Jamie Moore, Debbie Owens, Melissa Shultz, and Ann Tuck!

Our Digi Challenge this week is 3-2-1.  For your project that uses a digital image as its focal point, you’ll need to use 3 of one item, 2 of a different item, and 1 of something else.  When you write up your blog post or upload description, please include details to let us know what your 3-2-1 items are.  Be sure to link your project to the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge blog by midnight Thursday, February 21.  You aren’t required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!).

I’ve used the new image Bunny 1 and two of the images from Spring Add-ons – so the “3” part of my card is three different digital images.  My “2” things are two dies – the circle and the fence.  And I’ve used one pearl to embellish the center of the layered Prima flowers.  I played around with resizing and rotating the images so I could have the butterfly lighting on the bunny’s nose, and so that the flowers would be facing in different directions.  Because the deadline for submitting Easter cards to Operation Write Home has passed, I opted to create a non-seasonal sentiment in Microsoft Word and printed that out to use.  I was trying to go for the look of the bunny and the flowers against a backdrop of the rising sun.  I’m not sure I’ve accomplished that successfully, but I’m OK with how the card turned out.  Once again, I’ve used Freshly Made Sketches #73 for the layout, but this time I’ve turned it into a tall rectangle.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Comments are always welcome.  To show my appreciation to my visitors, I’m offering some Spring-y blog candy to one person who leaves a comment on this blog post by 9:00 pm eastern time on Thursday, February 21!  Want to see?

There’s a set of Fancy Corners embossing folders, two packages of Pop Dots, a package of Basic Grey stitched brads, a package of Basic Grey glazed brads, and a package of white daisy embellishments from Close to My Heart.  The Basic Grey products coordinate with their Kioshi papers.  If this blog post receives more than 25 comments, I’ll add in a few other goodies.  I’ll be monitoring comments for spam, so only legitimate comments will be counted for the random drawing.  The winner will be announced in my Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge post on Friday, February 22, 2013.  Be sure to leave your email address in the email input field so I’ll have a way to contact you if you’re the winner! 🙂

Hello! It’s Friday, which means it’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week we have a color challenge: Pink and Black. You’ll need to create a card using a digital image and showcasing the colors pink and black! You may also use white or cream/ivory cardstock and embellishments. You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we really enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!).

I decided to get a start on Mother’s Day cards for Operation Write Home, so that’s how I chose the sentiment and the feminine feel of my card.  The layout is a Sweet Stop sketch from several weeks ago, turned on its side.  In retrospect considering the challenge theme, I probably should have used more pink and black and less ivory, but I’m happy with how the card turned out.

Now it’s your turn to show us what you can create!  Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, February 14.  Be sure to see what the rest of the  Design Team has created and give them some comment love, too.  Links to their blogs are in the left sidebar.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Hello! Happy Friday, and happy February! Are you ready for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge?

This week’s challenge is Valentines and Love. Make a card for Valentine’s Day or simply to celebrate love in general. Just be sure you use at least one digital image for the focal point of your card. You’re not required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do love it when our participants use them.

I’ve chosen to make a love themed card that could be used for Valentine’s Day or for any other time of the year.  That’s the theme of this week’s ABC Challenge, too.  (Considering the time of year, I’m willing to bet it’s the theme for a lot of challenge sites right now!)  Once again, I’ve gone to the Freshly Made Sketches challenge blog for the layout of my card.  I paper pieced Opal Owl for the “any shape” part of the layout, and I moved the sentiment panel lower down on the card so that Opal could perch on it.  I did “cheat” a bit on the paper piecing; rather than cut the beak and feet separately, I just colored them. I figured it was worth it not to fiddle with teeny tiny pieces. The design in this one patterned paper reminded me vaguely of feathers, so I used that for the background and planned the rest of my color scheme around it.

I’m also submitting this card into the current Inkspirational “Anything Goes” challenge.

So, now it’s your turn to show us what you create with love in mind! Link your project at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, February 7. Remember that for every project you submit throughout February, you will get one entry to be eligible for winning 3 digital images of your choice from the Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps store! Be sure to play along every week, and to go visit the rest of the design teams’ blogs for more inspiration. Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies:
Digital Images: Opal Owl, Owl Sentiments 2 (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Naturals Ivory, Pear Pizzazz, Very Vanilla, Paisley Petals designer series paper (Stampin’ Up)
Ink: printer ink
Other: River Rock ribbon, tag corner punch (SU); Orange twine (Really Reasonable Ribbon); large black eyelet (source unknown); markers (Copic)

Hello! It’s Friday! I am looking forward to this weekend! My older son has been accepted into the 16th annual Virginia Tech Honor Band, so we will be heading to Blacksburg along with several other students from his school and two other parent chaperones. It should be a lot of fun. I just hope the weather isn’t too brutal. I don’t mind snow, but I’m not a big fan of ice nor strong, cold winds. At any rate, it will definitely be a learning experience.

Another fun thing about it being Friday is that it’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week our challenge is called It’s All White. Only white cardstock can be used on your project! You’re allowed to color your digital image, and you may use embellishments that are colored. But no colored cardstock, and no pretty designer papers – unless they are white! You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, January 31.

I’ve made a birthday card for today’s challenge, mainly because I wanted to add another birthday card to the box I sent yesterday to Operation Write Home for their Race You to the Mailbox card drive.  I colored the Tommy Turtle image and the balloons with Copic markers and cut them apart so I could add in twine for the balloon strings.  I printed Tommy’s left front leg and colored it an additional time so I could attach it over top of the balloon strings to make it look like he’s really holding them.  I knew I wanted to color Tommy green, but I was having a hard time deciding what color(s) to make the balloons.  So I looked to the OWH Design Bootcamp post on color theory for suggestions.  I chose to use red balloons for a complimentary color scheme with the green.  The layout for this card comes from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  It’s a great sketch that can be played down for a CAS card or played up with lots of layers or embellishments.  I also noticed that this week’s ABC Challenge is to make birthday cards, so I figured why not join in that one, too.

Now it’s your turn!  What will you create with only white cardstock?  I’m looking forward to seeing what you make!

Supplies:
Digital Images: Tommy Turtle’s Balloons, Masculine Birthday Greetings (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: printer ink
Other: markers (Copic); cherry twine (Really Reasonable Ribbon); Swiss Dots embossing folder (ProvoCraft)

Happy Friday! It’s time for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week’s challenge is an easy one: Anything Goes! Simply make something featuring a digital image. It can be a card, a gift bag, a tag, a scrapbooking layout, or an altered project. The sky’s the limit! Share your artwork over at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge website before midnight eastern time Thursday, January 24. We’d love to see what you create! Although we especially enjoy seeing what our challenge participants make with Sweet ‘n Sassy digital images, you can use a digi from any stamp company.

Today is especially exciting because Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps is introducing 7 new digital images!  That’s right, 7!  Let me tell you, they are ADORABLE.  Each is a different animal with a sentiment to match.  The rest of the design team and I are showcasing different ones this week, so please check out everyone’s blogs so you can see all the new cuties!  Links are over in the left sidebar.  And yes – there are two new links over there because we have two new design team members!  Welcome, Lori Finch and Amy Wright!

I have two projects for you today.  The first one uses the Turtley Awesome image and its accompanying sentiment.  I chose this image because I wanted to add a card that could be sent to a boy to my Operation Write Home stash.  The layout for this card started off as this week’s Splitcoaststampers.com sketch challenge, but I decided to leave off one of the sketch elements.  I’ve paper pieced the turtle using two shades of green designer paper, and I used dimensional adhesive to pop its head out of its shell.  Although there isn’t a dominating amount of green on this card, I think it still fits into this week’s OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge.

My other project is another card for Operation Write Home.  I chose to use the image from Thank Ewe in a different way.  I added a little bit of coloring to the lamb to give it some visual dimension (although it would also be cute with the head popped up like I did with the turtle), paired it with this week’s Stars & Stamps sketch, and added a sentiment from one of the Sweet ‘n Sassy clear stamp sets.  And ta-da: an Easter lamb!  I did mirror-image the sketch so the lamb wouldn’t appear to be looking off the edge of the card.  The oval element of the sketch reminds me of an Easter egg!

So now it’s time for you to check out what the rest of the design team has done with the other new images, and then create your own project to share with us!  Thanks for stopping by today.  Have a fabulous weekend!

Supplies for the turtle card:
Digital Image: Turtley Awesome (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: textured white (Bazzill); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); designer papers from Green at Heart 6″ x 6″ paper pad (Basic Grey)
Ink: printer ink
Other: dimensionals (Stampin’ Up)

Supplies for the lamb card:
Digital Image: Thank Ewe (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Sentiment Stamp: Egg-Cited Cocoa (SNSS)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); Elegant Eggplant (Stampin’ Up); designer papers from Green at Heart 6″ x 6″ paper pad (Basic Grey)
Ink: printer ink; Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: dimensionals (SU); markers (Copic)

Happy Friday! It’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week our challenge is to create a project using a Coffee, Tea, or Hot Cocoa digital image. You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, January 17.

I’ve used the Cocoa’s Latte image for my card.  One of my goals for 2013 is to use up as much of my older crafting supplies as possible, so I figured I’d start on that by using some of my oldest designer paper for this card.  I also thought the dark brown background was kind of representative of coffee.  I’ve had the brown flower-shaped buttons for a while, too.  I decided to paper piece the sleeve around the coffee cup, but the rest of the image is colored with Copic markers.  (The yellow cup matches the yellow cardstock better in real life than in the photo.)  Because I’m not a coffee drinker,  I was a little stumped as to what to use for a sentiment.  So I asked my coffee-loving friend Victoria for suggestions and she came up with this one.  Thanks, V!  It’s perfect for a card to send to Operation Write Home. I just used my computer to generate it and printed it out along with the image. The layout for this card is the sketch for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I’m looking forward to seeing what you create for this week’s Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge!

Supplies:
Digital Image: Cocoa’s Latte (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)

Hi, and Happy New Year! We’ve made it through another week, and now it’s Friday again, which means it’s time for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week’s challenge should be pretty fun: Use a new product or technique and a digital image to make your project. Share your work over at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge website before midnight eastern time Thursday, January 10. We’d love to see what you create!

The new product I chose to work with isn’t entirely brand new to the crafting world. I had bought a set of Faber Castell Gelatos at a scrapbooking/stamping store in Florida when my family was visiting my in-laws over Thanksgiving, but with the busy-ness of preparing for Christmas, I didn’t have a chance to do anything with them until now.  So I browsed YouTube for video tutorials using this coloring medium and learned several different techniques to use with them.  I’ve tried mine out in two different ways, so I have two cards for you today. Both cards use the same floral images.

For the flowers on the first card, I rubbed two colors of the Gelatos on the flowers, not trying to be totally precise on getting the color to cover the flower. Then I used my fingertip to blend the colors together to completely cover the image, before cutting the flower images from the cardstock.  A couple things I noted: 1) The colors blended more easily the heavier I applied them to the paper, and the warmer my fingers were, and 2) The colors wash off fingers VERY easily, with no staining!  The Gelatos I have are metallic, but the shimmer seemed to disappear into the cardstock after several hours.  On the card below, you can still see a bit of shimmer on the flower on the right. I wanted the sentiment on this card to take up a fair amount of vertical space, but I also wanted one that would be practical for Operation Write Home.  So I took one of the choices from the Mother’s Day Sentiments digital set, used my photo editing software to break each word into its own file, and then reassembled the words into three lines instead of the original one long, narrow line.  I used one of my newest Nestabilities dies to cut the sentiment panel, and then framed it with cardstock that coordinated with the colors I used for the flowers.

The packaging stated that the Gelatos can be blended either with or without water, so I tried watercoloring some of the flower images with them.  I applied the Gelatos to the cardstock, and then blended them with a slightly wet paintbrush.  Wow!  The colors blended SO easily!  It was almost like magic.  I let the images dry completely before cutting them out.  I noticed that the watercolored images turned out a tiny bit lighter in color than the ones I blended with my fingertip, but they retained a whole lot more shimmer than the finger-blended ones.  However, if you rub the watercolored images with your finger, a little of the shimmer comes off on your finger.  This doesn’t happen with the finger-blended ones.  So I’m a bit hesitant about using the watercolored ones on cards for Operation Write Home.  (NOTE – Not all Gelatos are metallic like mine are.  This is 100% totally a guess, but I’d think that images watercolored with non-metallic Gelatos would be all right for OWH.)  I decided to make a birthday card with the watercolored flowers, and I’ll send it to one of my friends.  I used the current Freshly Made Sketches layout for this card, stretching it out to a rectangle.  You can tell from the photo that these flowers have more shimmer than the ones on the first card.  I used a sentiment from a clear Sweet ‘n Sassy stamp set on this card, rather than trying to put the entire card base through the printer.  On both this card and the first one, the purple cardstock coordinates better with the rest of the card in real life than the picture shows.

So, there you have it – two different ways to use Faber Castell Gelatos. Thanks for stopping by today!  Now it’s your turn to show off what you can create with something that is new to you, using a digital image for your main focal point!  I’m looking forward to seeing what you link to the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site!

Hello!  I hope all of my blog visitors have had a wonderful, joyous holiday season, no matter whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or something else.

I took a little hiatus from crafting over the holidays, and now I’m trying to get back into the swing of things.  I used the mirror image of the latest Freshly Made Sketch for the layout, although I didn’t get the card finished in time for me to enter it into the challenge.  Oh well.  I decided to go with a brown color scheme for the bunny image.  The current OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge is calling for “miss you” cards, so that helped determine the sentiment I chose.

Here’s wishing you all the best in 2013!  Thanks for visiting with me throughout the year.

Supplies for today’s card:
Digital Image: Contemplative Bunny (Amber Ink)
Sentiment Stamp: Year Round Sentiments (Hero Arts)
Cardstock: Kraft (Stampin’ Up); Solar White (Neenah); designer papers from Pyrus 6″ x 6″ paper pad (Basic Grey)
Ink: printer ink; Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: petite oval Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders); Browns twine (Queen & Co.)

It’s Friday again, which means it’s time for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This time the challenge is Favorite Colors. We encourage you to make a project using a digital image and your favorite colors. Share your project with us at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, January 3. (Yes – because of the Christmas holiday season, this challenge will run for two weeks!) You’re not required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image for your project, but we do love when you use those (and you get the chance for perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details).

At Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenges, today we’re celebrating the new release of two digital images and a sentiment set! There are two sweet girls dressed up to keep warm – Bundled Autumn and Bundled Ava. The Winter Wishes sentiments work perfectly with either of these images, or with most any other winter images.  Best of all with this new release – one participant in this fortnight’s challenge will be randomly chosen to win the entire release!  Wow!

I’ve used Bundled Ava for today’s card. I’ve always liked the color blue, in most any shade, but bright cobalt blue is probably my most favorite shade. I also love the richness of deep red. So I’ve used those colors for my color scheme. The layout for this card is the current Splitcoaststampers.com weekly sketch challenge sketch. The blue panel has some embossed snowflakes to help carry out the wintery theme. Liquid Applique gives Ava’s earmuffs and the trim on her coat and boots a fluffy, furry look.  This sentiment seems to me like a particularly good one for Operation Write Home cards; I chose to color in the heart.  The color scheme works for this week’s OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge, too.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Be sure to visit the other SNSDC Design Team members’ blogs and give them some love on their projects, too!

Supplies:
Digital Images: Bundled Ava, Winter Wishes (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)

Hello! Happy Friday! Are you ready for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge?

This week’s challenge is Tag, You’re It! Use a tag on your project – or make your project a tag, such as a gift tag. Just be sure you use at least one digital image for the focal point of your project. You’re not required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do love it when our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the SNSS Digi Challenge site for more details!).

A recent Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps sketch featured a tag as the focal point of the card layout.  I’ve used the mirror image of that sketch for today’s card.  I’m still trying to get some Valentines and love-themed cards made to send to OWH by the end of December, so I decided to use one of the images and some of the sentiments from the You & Me digital stamp set.  The colors one would typically imagine for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches aren’t usually perceived as Valentine colors, but luckily I had this retired Basic Grey paper with hearts on it and it seemed pretty near perfect.  The tag is adhered with dimensional adhesive, so I kept the embellishments pretty simple in order to keep the card from becoming too bulky and difficult to mail.

So, now it’s your turn to show us what you can do with a tag (or two or even more)! Link your project at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, December 20. Remember that for every project you submit throughout December, you will get one entry to be eligible for winning 3 digital images of your choice from the Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps store! If you use a Sweet ‘n Sassy image on your challenge submission, it will earn you an additional entry for the prize. Be sure to play along every week, and to go visit the rest of the design teams’ blogs for more inspiration. Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies:
Digital Image and Sentiments: You & Me (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: More Mustard, Naturals Ivory (Stampin’ Up); designer papers from Fusion collection (Basic Grey)
Ink: printer ink
Other: markers (Copic); dimensionals, Eggplant grosgrain ribbon (SU); mini heart brad (Making Memories)

We’ve made it through another week, and now it’s Friday again, which means it’s time for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week’s challenge should be pretty easy: Create a Christmas project using a digital image. Share your creation over at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge website before midnight eastern time Thursday, December 13. We’d love to see what you create! Although we especially enjoy seeing what our challenge participants make with Sweet ‘n Sassy digital images, you can use a digi from any stamp company.

Today I have a clean and simple card I created for Operation Write Home.  The sentiment is something I came up with on my own and printed using Microsoft Word.  I thought since the image is from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps, I’d put a little sass into the sentiment.  The Santa Owl image was printed several times on different patterned papers so I could paper piece it.  I added some white flocking to the hat.  I received this fluffy stuff in a Secret Santa swap 9 or 10 years ago, and I have no idea what company makes (made?) it.  Honestly, I think this is the first time I’ve used it.  😳

Thanks for stopping by today!  Be sure to see what the rest of the Design Team has created and give them some comment love.  Links to their blogs are in the left sidebar.  Then join us in our challenge this week!

Supplies:
Digital Image: Santa Owl (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)

Happy Friday! It’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week our challenge is Interior Decorating. You’ll need to create a card using a digital image, and embellish the inside of your card as well as the outside! You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, December 6.

I’ve been trying to work on some “love” cards for Operation Write Home, so my card this week fits into that category.  I chose one of the Rhubarb bear images; this time he’s holding a heart.  I decided to paper piece the heart with some designer paper.  I added a short phrase from a Valentine-themed digital stamp set, and then repeated the phrase and printed that on a strip of coordinating designer paper for the inside of the card.  The layout for this card is this week’s Splitcoaststampers.com sketch challenge, turned on its side.

Here’s the outside of the card:

I didn’t want to get too fancy and fussy with the inside; with the cards I send to OWH, I like to maximize the amount of space our heroes have to write home to their loved ones.  So I kept my embellishing down to a 1-inch wide strip:

Hello! Happy Friday! I hope all my American readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. My family is spending the holiday with my husband’s family. We don’t see them often, so we’re all trying to enjoy our time together as much as we can.

Since it’s Friday, that means it’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week our challenge is Gifts. Use a digital image to create a gift, or simply use a digital image depicting a gift. You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, November 29.

I wanted to make a holder for a gift card.  A few weeks ago I saw this one that looks like a gift box and decided to give it a try.  I made a few modifications to it – one, I kept the top of the “box” separate instead of hinging it to the bottom with a brad ; two,  I simplified the “bow” on the top of the box.  I printed the Cookie Mouse image several times so I could paper piece her bow and her present to match the gift card holder, and so I could pop up her head and paw so it looks like she’s really peeking around the present.  So, first I’ll show a photo of all the components:

This one shows how the insert slips inside the “bottom of the box”:

Here’s another view, showing the gift card:

And finally, here it is, all put together:

This turned out just a bit too tall to fit in an A2 envelope (for example, if you wanted to mail this to someone).  If I’d made the box shorter and wide enough so the gift card insert would go into it horizontally instead of vertically, it would work.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Be sure to see what the rest of the Design Team has created and give them some comment love.  Links to their blogs are in the left sidebar.  Then join us in our challenge this week!

Hello! Happy Friday! I have a lot of information to share with you today, so I’m just going to jump right into it.

First of all, it’s new digital image release day at Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps! There are three new items available for purchase now: Kiwi Koala’s Cuppa digi stamp, Eskimo Kisses colored digi stamp, and Eskimo Kisses Sentiments, which is a set of 3 sentiments. You can click on the pink words to see what the new images look like.  All of the SNSS Digi Challenge design team members are featuring at least one of the new images and/or sentiments on their blogs today, so be sure to check out the links in the left sidebar here to see what they’ve been up to, or head over to the SNSS Digi Challenge website.

Next, it’s time for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week’s challenge is to make a shaped card using a digital image. Your card can be any shape other than a rectangle or a square.  Using a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image isn’t a requirement, but we really enjoy seeing what our challenge participants can create with them.  One of our challenge participants who does use a SNSS image will be chosen as a Spotlight Participant in next Friday’s challenge post.

I chose to use Kiwi Koala’s Cuppa for today’s card.  I cut the card base with my largest Nestabilities Labels Eight die, making sure that the card fold was within the label shape.  Then I used the same die to cut my designer paper, which I attached to the card front so that the fold is hidden.  (It’s on the left side.)  The image panel was cut with a smaller die from the same Labels Eight set.  The sentiment comes from another Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image set.  I thought it worked well with this image to create a wintery card for Operation Write Home.  The button and bow were a bit of an afterthought.  Without them, the card was too plain.  So I wanted some sort of embellishment that wouldn’t look “lost” against the designer paper, but that wouldn’t be so bulky that mailing the card would be a problem.

Thirdly, as part of this month’s birthday celebration at Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps, all digital stamps will be on sale today through November 21, 2012!  You’ll save 25% off the purchase of any digital image.  If you haven’t worked with digital stamps before, this is a terrific time to try them out.  There’s a wide variety to choose from – the cuteness of Kiwi Koala, Cocoa Mouse, and Rhubarb the bear, as well as realistic birds and flowers, various seasonal images, and lots of great sentiments.  Here’s the link to the store: Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps – Digital Stamps Have fun shopping!

I’ve saved what I think is the most exciting part of today’s news for last: All participants in this week’s Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge will be entered into a drawing for a $20 shopping spree toward the purchase of Sweet ‘n Sassy digital stamps!  If that wasn’t incentive enough to join in the challenge, participants who use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image in their challenge project will have their names entered into the drawing twice!  So chose a favorite digi to create a card that’s any shape other than a square or a rectangle, and share it with us at the SNSS Digi Challenge website!  You have until 11:59 pm eastern time Thursday, November 22 to link your work there.  Good luck to all the participants – I’m really looking forward to seeing what everyone makes!
