Cards in Envy - Santa is Coming to Town!

Hello!  Can you believe it’s December already?  It will be Christmas soon, and Cards in Envy is getting in the spirit.  Our challenge theme for the next two weeks is “Santa is Coming to Town”.  Create an A2 sized card (4.25″ x 5.5″) that depicts Santa Claus in some way.  Remember to keep your card flat enough to fit in an envelope to mail at the first class postage rate.

For my design team sample, I wanted to make a card using the cute Santa stamp I used on an earlier card.  So I looked for the stamp set… and searched for the stamp set… and looked through just about every possible place in my craft room I could think of looking in.  And I still haven’t found the set.  Major bummer!  So I had to resort to a much different stamp.  This one does have a Santa… a very, very subtle one.  Can you find him?  🙂  I added some white shimmer paint to parts of the image to make it look like sunlight glistening on snow. The layout for this card is OWH Stars and Stamps sketch #236.

Hello!  I hope your weekend has gotten off to a good start!  If you’re in the United States, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Because it’s a fifth Saturday of the month, this week at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown we have a “Pick a Previous” challenge for you.  Jacqueline, our challenge hostess, is asking us to choose a previous 52{C}CT sketch for our inspiration this time.  You can find the previous sketches in the “sketches archive” tab at the 52{C}CT website.

I decided to revisit the May 2013 sketch.  Back then I used an embossing folder on the background with a deep, rich color scheme and made a card without a sentiment on the front.  Today’s card is kind of the opposite.  I’ve used designer paper with a pastel color scheme, and the sentiment is the main focus of the card.  Without any further ado, here it is…

Which sketch will you pick?  There are over 30 from which to choose, so have fun deciding!  Then be sure to share your card with us at the 52{C}CT site by 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Friday, December 5.  Thanks for stopping by today!

All supplies, except for the dies, are from Stampin’ Up.
Stamp: Christmas Messages
Cardstock: Pool Party, Smoky Slate, Whisper White, Winter Frost designer paper stack
Ink: Pool Party, Smoky Slate
Other: Pool Party seam binding, dimensionals, silver Hodgepodge Hardware, sponge; Labels Four and Labels Eleven Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders)

Here’s a quick card I made for the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge just before the challenge deadline.  I chose the chicken image and sentiment so that the card fits into the Chicks Stick Together challenge for Splitcoaststampers.com’s Hope You Can Cling To.  The chicken is a digital image that I purchased online, but I created the sentiment myself using Microsoft Word. I doodled some dots around the edges of both circles (although it’s hard to see the pale yellow dots around the chicken).  The patterned papers are some old, old scrapbooking papers from my stash.  The red paper has a faint splatter print, and the yellow paper has a subtle plaid print.

Hello!  Once again, it’s stash challenge week at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown, where we invite our challenge participants to use particular items from their crafting stash to create a Christmas or wintry card.  This time the chosen item is enamel dots.

I’ve combined a couple of other challenges in with this one.  The layout for this card is the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I also tied in tomorrow’s Hope You Can Cling To challenge requirements – but since that challenge hasn’t gone live yet, I can’t give any details on that!  Heh heh heh.  I’ve used one of my favorite little penguin images – oh what am I saying, I love all my little penguin images.  🙂  I did add a bit to the sketch by working in my enamel dots and by using a die-cut snowflake to mat the penguin.  The sentiment is from an older sentiment set by Purple Onion Designs.  I looked on their website to try to get the name of the set, but I couldn’t find it, so I’m guessing it’s been retired.

Hello!  We’re starting off another month of challenges at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown with a sketch challenge.  This one has some fun circles as well as rectangles and the chance to add a ribbon bow.

During September our challenges are being sponsored by Deedee’s Digis, and I’ve used one of their image sets for my card.  The set comes with an outline version of the image as well as a pre-colored version.  Because our color printer is out of ink, I’ve used the outline version and colored it myself.  Since I put a sentiment in one of the circular elements, I added a few rhinestones where the sketch suggested to put the sentiment.  The rhinestones started out clear, but I colored them with a Copic marker to coordinate with the deep red designer paper I’d used for the mats.

Now it’s time for you to show us what you can do with this sketch.  If you need more inspiration first, be sure to check out the 52{C}CT site to see what the rest of the design team has made.  Then link your card there by 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Friday, September 12.  We’d love to have you join us!

Hello!  We have a fifth Saturday in the month of August, which means it’s time for a Pick a Previous challenge at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown!  Gill, our challenge hostess, is asking us to choose a previous 52{C}CT sketch for our inspiration this time.  Go to the 52{C}CT site, click on the “Sketches Archive” tab, and select one of the 30+ sketches to use in creating your Christmas or wintry card.

I’ve chosen the June 2014 sketch for my card this week.  It’s been a while since I’ve used this penguin image so I thought I’d get him inky again.  For the horizontal and vertical crossing elements, I’ve layered two different ribbons – a very sheer white one, and a satin one to match the darker blue-green cardstock.  The penguin panel is adhered with dimensional adhesive to accommodate the thickness of the ribbons.

Hello there!  This week at CAS – Colours and Sketches we have a soft color palette for you to work with.  The pastel green color is called Pistachio Pudding, but it reminded me of mint chocolate chip ice cream (without the chocolate chips).  So I decided to go with an ice cream themed card.  I figured it makes a cute card for Operation Write Home.

The Stampin’ Up color names are only for reference; you do NOT need to use Stampin’ Up products to make your card for this challenge.  Simply use whatever you have in your craft supplies that is closest to these colors.  We’ll also allow white, cream, or black for your card base and black ink for outlines and sentiments.

Now it’s your turn! You have until 6:00 p.m. GMT/1:00 p.m. EST Wednesday, August 27 to share your artwork with us. We’d love to see what you create!

Hello again!  It’s time for another challenge at Cards in Envy.  For the next two weeks, we have a super easy theme for you to follow:  Happy Birthday to You.  That’s right – all you need to do for this challenge is to make an A2 sized birthday card (4.25″ x 5.5″) with no lumpy, bumpy embellishments so that it could be mailed at the standard postage rate.

I’ve gone with a fairly simply design that could be used for pretty much anyone of any age, although the color scheme does lean a bit toward the masculine side.  This platypus image always makes me smile.  The birthday hat was stamped on a scrap piece of cardstock.  I colored in the polka dots, cut out the hat and glued it into place, and drew in the frills on top.

If you need additional inspiration, please go check out the Cards in Envy site and see what the rest of the design team has made.  Then create a birthday card following our challenge guidelines and share it with us on the Cards in Envy site.  We’d love to have you play along with us!  Thanks for stopping by today.

Stamps: Critters Down Under, Hats Off to You (Lawn Fawn)
Cardstock: Garden Green, Elegant Eggplant, Very Vanilla (Stampin’ Up); designer papers from Fusion collection (Basic Grey)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: markers (Copic); Labels Five Nestabilities die (Spellbinders)

Hello!  This week is sketch week at CAS – Colours and Sketches, and we have something different for you!  This time we’re challenging our participants to create a clean and simple card in any non-rectangular shape.

I decided to go with a hexagon, since that’s still pretty trendy.  I’ve had some new-to-me stamps here for a few weeks and hadn’t had the change to play with them yet, and they fit the hexagon theme, so this seemed like the perfect time to get them inky.  I added a few splatters of color using the theme from this week’s color challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com.

What fun shape will you use?  Be sure to check out what the rest of the design team has made.  Then share your creation with us at the CC&S site by 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, July 2.

Supplies:
Stamps: All Squared Up (Avery Elle); Itty Bitty Backgrounds (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie (SU); Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: hexagon Nestabilities die (Spellbinders)

Hello!  I’m back from a short crafting hiatus taken while finishing renovating a bathroom, celebrating my older son’s high school graduation, and having my husband’s family visit for several days.  And it’s just in time for a new challenge at Cards in Envy!  For the next few weeks, we’re using the theme of Fun in the Sun.

I went pretty clean and simple with my card.  I printed off a digital image, colored it, and used a funky shaped die to cut it out.  I repeated the colors of the image in the card base and added a ribbon to join the two colors together.  The image panel is adhered with thin dimensional adhesive.

Go check out what the rest of the Cards in Envy Design Team has made, and then make your own A2 sized card depicting your idea of fun in the sun.  Be sure not to use any lumpy, bumpy embellishments that would prevent your card from fitting into an envelope and being mailed at the standard postage rate.  Share it with us at the Cards in Envy site by 7:00 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, July 6.  We’d love to see what you create!

Supplies:
Digital Image: Cocoa’s Beach Ball (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Stamp: So Happy For You (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); Soft Sky, Creamy Caramel (SU)
Ink: printer ink
Other: markers (Copic); Real Red grosgrain ribbon (SU); Wonky Rectangle Nestabilities die (Spellbinders); foam squares (Scotch)

Cards in Envy - Feeling Buggy

Comments Off on Cards in Envy – Feeling Buggy
Jun 022014

Hi there!  It’s time for a new challenge at Cards in Envy.  Our theme this time is “Feeling Buggy” – which means the cards for this challenge should all show some sort of insect.

I still had the materials for last Thursday’s card out when I started on my card for this challenge.  I decided I’d go ahead and use the same color scheme, and to make things easy, I figured I’d keep the general layout too.  So this card follows the current CAS – Colours and Sketches challenge, too.  To fit the Cards in Envy theme, I used this little ladybug image.  The bug’s antennae don’t lend themselves well to fussy cutting, so I felt it was best to keep the bug on a panel, but mat it to add an extra splash of color.  I ended up with this easy-peasy quick card, which will be another addition to the box I’m filling for Operation Write Home:

So how will you be “feeling buggy”?  Create your A2 sized card, remembering to keep it less than 1/4″ thick, and share it with us at Cards in Envy by 7:00 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, June 15.  We’d love to see your artwork!

Supplies:
Stamps: Somebuggy Loves You (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Coastal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar, Real Red (Stampin’ Up); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: markers (Copic); standard circle and big scalloped circle Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders); Woodgrain embossing folder (SU)

Hello there!  I just realized that eight months from today will be the day after Christmas!  If you’ve been participating in the weekly challenges at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown, you’re already building up a nice supply of cards to send out during the holiday season, or to donate to an organization of your choice that collects cards to be used by others.

The fourth Saturday of the month is Stash Challenge week at 52{C}CT, and our challenge hostess, Deborah, has chosen glitter as the stash element to be featured.  Those of you who know me well know that glitter and I are not friends!  I do think that it can be pretty, but the mess of loose glitter makes me shudder.  Plus it’s a huge no-no for the cards I donate to Operation Write Home, because glitter that flakes off a card can be detected by night vision equipment and put our military members at risk of danger.  So I have to confess that I approached this challenge somewhat reluctantly.  This week’s Freshly Made Sketches sketch looked nice and pretty simple, so I used that for my card layout.  I decided to use some glitter paper (which has disappointed me because the glitter does flake off) for the banner element.  The tree image was inked using the rock and roll technique.  I considered trying to use Stickles glitter glue for the star on top of the tree, but decided against it because of drying time and because I didn’t think I could make a good star shape with it.  Although the glitter makes this card unacceptable for Operation Write Home, I’m sure I’ll find another use for it.

Go see the glittery goodness the rest of the 52{C}CT design team has made!  Then make your own glittery Christmas or winter card and share it with us on our challenge post.  You have until 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Friday, May 2 to link your card.  We’re looking forward to seeing what you create!

Supplies:
Stamps: Season of Joy (Stampin’ Up); Holiday Script (Lizzie Anne Designs for Gourmet Rubber Stamps)
Cardstock: Pear Pizzazz, Gumball Green, Glimmer Silver, Confetti White (SU)
Ink: Pear Pizzazz, Gumball Green (SU)
Other: Star Circles Nestabilities die (Spellbinders); dimensionals (SU); star brad (The Paper Studio)

Hello!  Since it’s the fourth Thursday of the month, we have a sketch challenge for you at CAS – Colours and Sketches.  I’ve stretched the sketch out to a rectangular format and combined it with the colors for the Dynamic Duos challenge that ends later today.  I took a bit of liberty with the sketch by turning the long vertical rectangles into the boards of a fence, and I changed up the smaller rectangular panel into an oval.  I used a star-shaped flower for the star element of the sketch, but you can use any shape there.  The Dynamic Duos “dessert option” of gold is incorporated with the small gold brad for the center of the flower.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Be sure to check out the CAS – Colours and Sketches blog to see what the rest of the design team has done with this sketch.  Then make your own card and link it to the challenge post.  You have until 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, April 30 to participate.  We hope you’ll join us!

Cardstock: Rich Razzleberry, Basic Black, Whisper White (SU)
Ink: Rich Razzleberry (SU); Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: Spring Bouquet Flower punch, tag corner punch, gold brad (SU); petite oval and petite scalloped oval Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders)

Hello!  I hope Monday isn’t getting you down, because it’s time for a new Cards in Envy challenge!  This time the theme is “Hippity, Hoppity, Easter’s on its Way”.  Interpret that however you like into an A2 sized card with no lumpy, bumpy embellishments, and you’ve made a card that would be perfect for this challenge!

I’ve decided to use a cute bunny image and springlike colors with a sentiment that helps keep this card from being strictly an Easter card.  That gives it a longer “shelf life” for Operation Write Home.  The layout for this card comes from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge that ends today.  I needed to use dimensional adhesive on the right side of the sentiment panel to accommodate the thickness of the image panels underneath the left side.  But the card is still less than 1/4″ thick, and it will still fit easily into an envelope for mailing.

Now it’s your turn! Check out the Cards in Envy site for all the challenge details and to see what the rest of the design team has made. Then share your creation(s) with us by 7:00 p.m. eastern time Sunday, April 20. We’d love to have you play along with us!

Supplies:
Stamps: Cute Critters (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Pretty in Pink, Basic Gray, Tea Party designer paper (Stampin’ Up); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: markers (Copic); Dahlia and standard circle Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders)

Hello!  It’s Stash Challenge week at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown, where we invite you to use products you probably already own in creating your Christmas or wintry card.   This week we want to see what you can create with dimensional paper flowers.  The flowers on your card can be store bought, or you can create them with your cardstock and punches or dies.  You could even stamp a flower and then cut it out to give it some dimension.  Simply using a floral patterned paper isn’t going to count for this challenge.

I’ve had these paper poinsettias for a good seven years or so, never really knowing exactly when or how to use them.  When I came up with this challenge idea, I told myself that I was finally going to use them.  I kept my card clean and simple to keep the focus on the poinsettias and the sentiment.  The card base is textured cardstock, to give the card a little more interest, but I’m not sure how well that shows in the photo.  The tiny pearls started out white, but I colored them with a pale yellow Copic marker to make them look a little more realistic.

Be sure to visit the rest of the 52{C}CT Design Team members’ blogs and give them a little blog love! They’ve done a super job with this challenge! Then show us what you can do by linking your own card to the challenge post. You have until 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Friday, March 28 to share your card with us. We’d love to have you join in our fun and creativity!

Supplies:
Stamp: Christmas Messages (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Whisper White, Kraft, Whisper White textured (SU)
Ink: Crumb Cake (SU)
Other: poinsettias (Making Memories); half pearls (KaiserCraft); marker (Copic); petite oval Nestabilities die and Labels Six Nestabilities die (Spellbinders)
