Hello there!  It’s colors week again at CAS Colours & Sketches.

Over the last few months I was focusing on holiday-specific cards for Send a Smile 4 Kids, but now it’s time for me to work on more non-holiday cards for them.  Today’s card is meant to give a little encouragement but I suppose it could also be used for a birthday card if the sender writes a birthday message inside of it.  Despite my efforts to make it gender neutral, I think it ended up looking a little more boyish than girly.  But that’s OK.  I used a CC&S sketch from a few months ago for the layout.  We actually had a power outage following a massive thunderstorm yesterday evening while I was making this card, so my first go-through coloring it was literally done by fading sunlight just before sunset.  When the electricity came back on a few hours later, I was able to see that I actually hadn’t done too badly with it, so after touching up a few spots I went ahead and assembled the card.

I’m going to enter this into the “For the Kids” challenge at Shopping Our Stash.

Hello there!  Since January has five Tuesdays, that means it’s time for a double challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches!  This week we’re asking our challenge participants to combine the given colors with the given sketch.  We’ve reached back into the archives for some retired Stampin’ Up colors and a previous CC&S sketch.  Sounds like fun, right?  Be sure to check out what the rest of the CC&S design team has done with it!

I’ll admit I had a difficult time figuring out what to do for this challenge.  I wanted to make a valentine, but unlike some of the other design team members, I had a hard time wrapping my head around that with the challenge colors.  Finally I decided to think ahead on the calendar and start on the next season: Easter.   Even though I don’t really consider Easter to be a card-giving holiday, I know that some people do, so over the years I’ve made some Easter cards for the charities I support.  I substituted a squarish shape for the heart on the sketch, which gave me a little more room to create a little springtime scene using the challenge colors.  Because of the direction the rabbit is facing, I’ve flipped the sketch mirror-image.  I popped up the rabbit with dimensional adhesive for a little more visual interest.

Hello!  Happy Halloween to my readers who observe it!

Since it’s the fifth Tuesday of the month, this week at CAS Colours & Sketches we have a Timeless Tuesday double challenge – which means certain retired Stampin’ Up colors need to be used with an older CC&S sketch!  That sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

I wanted to make a few more birthday cards for Send a Smile 4 Kids before sending off my stockpile to them, so that’s how I decided the theme for today’s card.  I stretched the sketch out from a square to a landscape-oriented rectangle.  I’ll admit I took a little liberty with the sketch by not putting my row of sentiment and party hats in an actual strip as shown on the sketch.  I knew I had ribbons in the challenge colors, and I wanted to use some of them on the card.  I decided to layer the narrow Baja Blue ribbon on top of the wider River Rock ribbon.  I used just the Baja Blue ribbon for a simple little knot bow.  The red mat was a last-minute idea to add an extra pop of red to the card.  Even though it gives it more layers than I tend to like on a clean and simple card, it does make the card look better.

Although the colors listed are Stampin’ Up color names, you do not need to use Stampin’ Up products to create your card.  Simply use whatever you have that is closest to those colors.
