Hello!  I hope you’ve been having a wonderful week!

Since it’s Thursday, that means it’s time for a new challenge at CAS – Colours and Sketches.  This week our hostess, Karen, has a nice simple sketch for us (which does make sense since the challenge is about the clean and simple style of card making!).  I’ve chosen to combine the sketch with the Dynamic Duos color challenge that ends today and create a winter-themed card to add to my stockpile of cards for Operation Write Home.  I’ve stretched the sketch out to a rectangle, which ended up putting my panels at a slightly different proportion than the original sketch.  But I think the main idea of the sketch is still intact. I added a subtle print to the olive green strip to give it a little visual interest.

And there it is.  Be sure to check out what the rest of the CAS – Colours and Sketches design team did with this sketch.   Then show us what you can make with it!  You can link your creation to the challenge blog until noon eastern time Wednesday, September 18.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies:
Stamps: Cozy Friends (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps); Linen (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); Pacific Point, Old Olive (SU)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento); Old Olive (SU)
Other: markers (Copic); standard circle and petite scalloped circle Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders); Snowflakes embossing folder (Sizzix)

I’ve combined the fourth OWH Labor Day Virtual Card Making Party challenge with this week’s Dynamic Duos color challenge.  The color challenge is to pair Perfect Plum with a color of the participant’s choice.  I picked Certainly Celery.  The VCMP challenge is to create a love-themed card using OWH Stars & Stamps sketch #29.  This is a great sketch for clean and simple styled cards, but it holds potential for being dressed up with embellishments if you’d wish.  I kept it pretty CAS, but I rounded a few corners to keep it from looking too boxy.  The blossoms were stamped onto scrap cardstock, cut out, and then adhered to the focal panel.  The bottom left blossom is popped up a bit with a cardstock shim underneath it, to add just a little dimension to the card.  I had one blossom left over so I used it to perk up the inside of the card.  I wanted to add some sort of visual interest to the green panel, so I stamped the leafy image on it, after stamping the ink off once on scrap paper. Even though the sentiment is from a set called “Masculine Messages”, I think this particular one works well on cards for either men or women.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I still have some more VCMP challenges to work on, so off I go…

Supplies:
Stamps: Best Blossoms (Stampin’ Up); Masculine Messages (Gina K. Designs)
Cardstock: Perfect Plum, Certainly Celery, Very Vanilla (SU)
Ink: Perfect Plum, Certainly Celery
Other: corner rounder punch (EK Success)

Today’s card uses the color combination for Dynamic Duos challenge #67.  I wasn’t sure what to do with this monochromatic scheme at first, but then I decided to simply rework a card I made earlier this year.  It all came together pretty quickly after that.  Because this card is going to be included in my next shipment to Operation Write Home, I chose one of their most desired card themes when I was considering what sentiment to use.  A few rhinestones add a bit of sparkly fun.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies for this card:
Stamps: Year Round Sentiments (Hero Arts)
Cardstock: Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral, Whisper White (Stampin’ Up)
Ink: Calypso Coral (SU)
Other: Boho Blossoms punch, Spring Bouquet punch, rhinestones (SU); Paisley embossing folder (ProvoCraft)

I’ve combined this week’s Dynamic Duos color challenge, Pool Party and Basic Black, with the current Seize the Sketch layout for today’s card.  I let some designer paper and seam binding help me out with the Pool Party part of the color combo.  I like this sketch because it can be kept clean and simple, layered a bit like I’ve done it, or really dressed up with embellishments.  Gotta love versatility!

Thanks for stopping by today!

All supplies for this card are from Stampin’ Up.
Stamps: One of a Kind, Short & Sweet
Cardstock: Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Spice Cake designer series paper
Ink: Pool Party, Basic Black
Other: Large Scallop Edgelits die, Pool Party seam binding, black brad, Boho Blossoms punch

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I frequently combine a few online challenges into one card.  Once again, I came up with an idea for the Dynamic Duos challenge that worked nicely with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  It also fits in with the August OWH Our Daily Bread Designs challenge.  So here it is…

I had embossed the kraft cardstock a while ago but ended up not using it for an earlier project.  So today I cut the round windows out of it and used it for this card.  The foliage is stamped onto a piece of white cardstock cut slightly smaller than the kraft piece.  I stamped the blossoms onto a scrap piece of white cardstock and fussy cut them, to give them a little dimension and so some of them could “peek” from the window openings.  I turned the sketch on its side to accommodate the sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by today!

All supplies are from Stampin’ Up unless otherwise noted:
Stamps: Best Blossoms
Cardstock: Blushing Bride, Whisper White, Kraft
Ink: Pistachio Pudding, Blushing Bride, Crumb Cake
Other: Woodgrain embossing folder; standard circle Nestabilities die (Spellbinders)

It’s been a long time since I’ve made the time to play along in one of the Lawnscaping challenges, and I’ve missed doing them.  So I decided to get my act together for the current one, which is to create a one layer card.  I figured I could combine it with the current Dynamic Duos color challenge of pink and bright yellow.

So I looked through my Lawn Fawn stamps and came up with this:

Even though the card was pretty cute just like that, I felt it was missing something, particularly something to help bring out the yellow bird.  So I thought, why not fussy cut along the bottom of the heart border and add a strip of yellow cardstock to it?  I had a scrap of Daffodil Delight that was the perfect size to accomplish the look I pictured in my mind.  And after a little cutting and gluing, my card changed to this:

Ah, yes.  Much better.  And now it’s a cheery little any-age, gender-neutral card to include in my stash for Operation Write Home.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies:
Stamps: A Birdie Told Me, Belinda’s Borders, Love ‘n Breakfast (Lawn Fawn)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); Daffodil Delight (Stampin’ Up)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: Premier colored pencils (Prismacolor); odorless mineral spirits (Houston Arts)

I’ve combined Dynamic Duos color challenge #63 with the current Freshly Made Sketches layout for today’s card.  I did take the liberty of turning the sketch on its side.  It doesn’t show well in the photo, but the two little banners have been stamped with a subtle linen design. The layers make this card eligible for the current Cards in Envy challenge, too.

And there’s another any occasion card for my Operation Write Home stash.

Thanks for stopping by today!  As always, all comments are read and appreciated!

Stamps: Punny Fruits & Veggies (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps); Linen (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury Ivory (Gina K. Designs); River Rock, Pear Pizzazz, Garden Green, Spice Cake designer series paper (SU)

Other: markers (Copic)

The Dynamic Duos color combination this week definitely was a challenge for me – Calypso Coral and Basic Black, with the option of using a butterfly theme.  I’m not a huge fan of Calypso Coral, so that put a little damper on my enthusiasm to work on this challenge.  But I plugged along with it anyway and finally came up with a card that I’ll be donating to Operation Write Home:

I used a die to cut the fancy window from the black textured cardstock.  (Yes, it’s textured, even if it doesn’t show in the photo.)  I wanted to leave some definition between the images and the black cardstock, so I opted to leave a bit of a border around them when I fussy cut them.  That was kinda tricky, although it did make trimming around the antennae easier!  I had bought the coral twine several months ago thinking that having an embellishment would help encourage me to use this color.  Well, I finally had the chance to use the twine for the first time.  LOL And now I’m thinking the card would have looked just as good (if not better) without it. Oh well.

Here’s the challenge graphic, before I forget:

Thanks for stopping by today!  And hooray, I am not having the internet problems that plagued me when I was trying to enter last week’s Dynamic Duos challenge!

I was trying to get this post written and published earlier this afternoon, but my internet crashed.  So it’s now past the deadline to link to the most recent Dynamic Duos color challenge.  But since I’d already made the card and drafted most of this post in Word when the internet wasn’t working, I figured I might as well go ahead and let it go live now that the ‘net is up and running again.  I’ve participated in every previous Dynamic Duos challenge and I didn’t want to let one internet failure stop me.

The color combination this time was Pink Pirouette and Sahara Sand.  I didn’t really want to do anything too flowery with the pink, but then I wasn’t sure what to do with the colors.  Finally I decided to use this designer paper that has a Sahara Sand background, and pair it with one of my cute little animal stamps.  I used alphabet stamps to create the sentiment.  The layout is OWH Stars & Stamps sketch #63, and the card will be donated to Operation Write Home.  I’m imagining that one of our military heroes stationed overseas might send this card home to his or her young daughter.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Mini Critters (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps); Jessie’s ABCs (Lawn Fawn)
Cardstock:  Pink Pirouette, Delicate Dots designer series paper (Stampin’ Up); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink:  Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other:  Pink Pirouette ribbon, dimensionals (SU); markers (Copic); hexagon Nestabilities die (Spellbinders)

Today I’ve combined the current Dynamic Duos color challenge with the current Freshly Made Sketches layout.  The result is this clean and simple card that I’ll be donating to Operation Write Home.  Lining up the scallops took a little planning, but I’m liking the end result.

I made some time tonight to whip up a couple of cards for the box I’m compiling for Operation Write Home.  I’ve combined this week’s layout from Freshly Made Sketches with the soon-to-end color challenge from Dynamic Duos.

Since Dynamic Duos had a fifth Saturday in June, they chose one color – Basic Gray – and let each challenge participant pick their own second color to make the duo.  I decided to go with Rich Razzleberry for my second color.  I kept both my cards rather clean and simple, so they would be easy to mail.  I let one card focus on the gray part of the color duo, and dressed up the other card by adding a knot bow.  The ribbon on both cards came from the same spool.  The polka dots are printed on only one side, so I opted to let them show on one card but hide them on the other.  It’s been quite a while since I’ve used this sweet little bunny on a card, so it felt good to give him some inky love again.

So there you have ’em – two rather quick and easy cards!  Thanks for stopping by today.

Supplies:
Stamps: My Silly Valentine (Lawn Fawn)
Cardstock: Rich Razzleberry, Basic Gray (Stampin’ Up); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: markers (Copic); Rich Razzleberry ribbon (SU)

Good morning!  This week’s CAS – Colours and Sketches challenge is a sketch challenge.  I’ve combined it with the Dynamic Duos deep oranges color challenge.  I’ve taken the liberty of adding in a mat to highlight the color challenge combo, as well as turning the sketch on its side.  The leaves are digital images that I’ve colored using a watercoloring technique.  I used Tangerine Tango on the maple leaves and Cajun Craze on the other leaves (they look more like redbud leaves to me than any other kind, but feel welcome to leave me a comment to correct me if I’m wrong).  However, once they dried, they all ended up looking pretty similar in color.  Oh well.  After all the fussy cutting was done, it still made a nice autumn-looking card for Operation Write Home.  The maple leaf on the left has a cardstock shim under it, and the maple leaf on the right is adhered with pop dots, to give a little bit of dimension to the card.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you’ll join us over at CAS – Colours and Sketches with your own take on this sketch!  You have until noon eastern time Wednesday, July 3 to link your card at the challenge website.

Supplies:
Digital Images: Autumn Leaves (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Sentiment Stamp: Year Round Sentiments (Hero Arts)
Cardstock: Tangerine Tango, Cajun Craze, Naturals Ivory (Stampin’ Up); Solar White (Neenah) [for the leaves]
Ink: printer ink; Tangerine Tango (SU)
Other: Tangerine Tango and Cajun Craze ink refills, dimensionals (SU)

I’ve just realized that I’ve used the same stamp set for this week’s Dynamic Duos challenge as I used last week.  That wasn’t intentional!  But what can I say – it’s a very versatile set that I really like.

This week the challenge colors are Pear Pizzazz and Basic Black, with an option to use a plant theme.  I originally thought about trying to do something with leaves, but in the end I came back to this tree stamp.  The layout comes from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  I’ve used ruffled seam binding in place of the scalloped element, and added a layer to the sketch so I could tuck the ends of the binding underneath.  Even though the ruffles add dimension to the card, they are soft and squishable so they’ll be easy to mail, so I think this card will still be suitable for Operation Write Home.

Thanks for stopping by today!  As always, all comments are read and appreciated.

Edited on 6/21/13 to add:  Thank you, Hayley, for choosing this card as a Dynamic Duos Dynamic Darling!  I’m so honored! 🙂

When I saw that this week’s colors for the Dynamic Duos challenge were Blushing Bride and Soft Suede, I was super happy because I really like the combination of pink and brown.  I toyed with different ideas of what to do with them, and finally had a chance to sit down last night and start working with them.

I decided to go quick and easy, and I am low on love-themed cards for the box I’m preparing for Operation Write Home, so those factors decided my card theme and design.  I picked sketch #29 from the OWH Stars & Stamps blog for my layout.  It’s an older one, but I hadn’t used it before, so it feels good to check another one off the list.  I stamped the long vertical panel with a subtle design in the same color ink and added a ribbon to give it more visual interest.

I have to admit that I didn’t care for the Blushing Bride color when it was first introduced.  But it’s grown on me in the last year or so.  I like that it isn’t “little girlie pink” and doesn’t look overly feminine.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you’ve been having a good week.

All supplies for this card are from Stampin’ Up.
Stamps: Branch Out, Small Sayings, Sanded, Three Little Words
Cardstock: Blushing Bride, Soft Suede, Very Vanilla
Ink: Blushing Bride, Soft Suede
Other: Blushing Bride ribbon, dimensionals

I have to admit I had a really difficult time with this week’s Dynamic Duos color challenge.  All I could think about was how much my mom has always disliked seeing red and purple together, even though this challenge calls for a kind of purpley red.  It’s taken me almost right up to the deadline for linking my card, but I finally came through with something.

I didn’t want to do anything really flowery. I originally thought I was going to go with something geometric, maybe using hexagons since they’re pretty trendy right now.  But in the end I decided to rework a design I’d originally come up with back in 2006.  I just changed up the colors.  The sand-colored cardstock is textured, and the holes are punched out of it so that the light purple piece shows through.  In retrospect, a sentiment with a bolder font would have shown up better against its background, but I think this will still be good enough to include in my next shipment to Operation Write Home.  I just need to add a light-colored liner inside the card so handwriting will show up in it better.

All supplies except the hole punch are from Stampin’ Up.
Stamps: Fun With Shapes, So Happy For You, Paisley
Cardstock: Raspberry Ripple, Wisteria Wonder, Sahara Sand textured, Whisper White
Ink: Raspberry Ripple, Wisteria Wonder
Other: hole punch (Creative Memories)
