It’s been a busy week, but I did get time to make a card today.  Well, finished today.  I actually started this one a few days ago, but ended up reworking the layout a couple times.  I finally came up with this for the March Sketch For You To Try layout.  I ended up substituting an oval for the rectangular focal panel on the sketch. This card is going to be donated to Operation Write Home.  I think it turned out to be suitable for one of our heroes to send home to either a girlfriend, wife, mother or grandmother.

Here’s the sketch:

And, I’m still waiting for someone to make comment #1500 on my blog so they can win the goodies I showed in my March 27 post!  It’s getting really really close now!  Here’s the prize again – with a few extra smaller goodies not shown:

EDITED ON APRIL 5, 2012 TO ADD:  We have a blog candy winner!  Please see this post for details.

Here’s the supply list for today’s card:
Sentiment stamp: Love is Like a Tree (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Digital Image: Forget-Me-Not (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Barely Banana textured, Lovely Lilac, Almost Amethyst Prints designer papers (Stampin’ Up); Vintage Cream (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento) [for sentiment]; printer ink
Other: markers (Copic); standard circle and petite oval Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders)

The current Lawnscaping challenge was a little more difficult for me than it might sound.  It’s to use another crafter’s work as inspiration for your own creation.  The hard part was deciding whose work to use for my inspiration!

I finally decided to choose Vera Yates because I really like the clean and simple cards she tends to do.  I browsed through her blog and came across the stunning card in this post and thought to myself, “I can do that!”  So here’s my take on it.  I kept the layout the same but I changed the color scheme a bit and used different stamps than she did.  I always try to use Lawn Fawn sets in my Lawnscaping cards, and today’s is no exception.  I substituted one of the flowers from Flutter By for the rosettes on Vera’s card, and I colored them with Copic markers.  I wanted to make another love themed card for Operation Write Home and decided this sentiment from the Sophie’s Sentiments set was a fun, slightly different take on that.  I also opted for a simpler, single loop bow to help keep the card easy to mail.

And now, on to some fun stuff!  It’s been a while since I’ve given away any blog candy, and right now I think I have a really good reason to give a “thank you” to one of my blog readers.

My WordPress stuff keeps tracks of statistics like how many comments my blog has received, and I was delightfully surprised to notice that I’m close to having 1500 comments!  So, the person who leaves comment number 1500 is going to receive some stamping goodies!

I’m giving away a brand new, never used Unity Stamp set called “Bitty Pixie Paisley”, which contains 4 stamps, and a never used Basic Grey “LilyKate” 6″ x 6″ paper pad.  Basic Grey retired the LilyKate line several years ago, so it’s nearly impossible to find anywhere for purchase any more. When they retired it, I bought a few more of these pads than I thought I would use, and this is the last intact one I have left.

I’ll probably go through my stash of crafty things and add in a few more little goodies too… but the blog candy winner will definitely receive, at minimum, the two items shown in the photo above.

Spammers are NOT eligible to win this prize.  Spam Karma (the spam blocking program I use) and I will determine whether or not a comment is legitimate.

One comment per person, please, until the winner is announced.  (After I announce the winner, you are more than welcome to comment all you want!  :D)

Does that sound good to you?  🙂  If it does, make sure you leave a way for me to contact you when you leave your comment.

EDITED ON APRIL 5, 2012 TO ADD:  We have a winner for the blog candy!  See this post for details.

My stamping friend Beverly recently surprised me with a blog award:

So to share the happy, I’m doing the following things:

  • Pass on the award to five other people whose blogs have inspired me. It also needs to be someone who has less than 200 followers.
  • Put a comment on their blog, so that they know about it.
  • Link back to the person who gave me the award and thank them.
  • Post the award on my blog.

The following ladies all create some amazing artwork.  I {heart} their blogs, and I hope you’ll visit them for some inspiration, too!

Beverly, thanks again for spreading some bloggy love! 🙂

For me, sometimes the hardest part of making cards for various challenges is making sure I get the work done before the challenge deadline!  I guess I tend to get distracted too easily sometimes and then whoops, the deadline has passed.

Today’s first card is squeaking in on the last day.  This is for the Sweet Stop Sketch #150.  I stretched the sketch layout to make it a vertical rectangle, and then I flipped it so it’s really a mirror image.  To keep the card from becoming heavy with lots of layers, I sponged the edges of the panels instead of matting them.  I used dimensional adhesive to adhere the focal, sentiment and yellow background panels over the bulk of the ribbon.  I paper pieced the heart from a scrap of green.  The sketch challenge spin is to use green and I paired a lot of yellow with it so the card would also meet this week’s OWH Stars and Stamps Midweek Throwdown challenge.

I have a second card for today, too.  Sadly, I missed the deadline for getting this one uploaded for the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge #45.  The layout is Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge #376 turned on its side.  I don’t normally use colors this bright, but when I saw that the digi challenge said to use green, this digital image immediately came to mind and the orange had to come along with it. I was so glad I had designer paper that had both green and orange in the patterns!

So now I have two more love-themed cards for the box I plan to send to Operation Write Home next week.  Yay!

Supplies for the Rhubarb the bear card:
Digital Images: Rhubarb’s Heart, You & Me (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Certainly Celery, Delicate Dots designer paper, Certainly Celery Patterns designer paper (Stampin’ Up); Solar White (Neenah)
Ink: printer ink
Other: So Saffron grosgrain ribbon, dimensionals (SU); markers (Copic); standard circle Nestabilities die (Spellbinders); small scallop border die (Papertrey Ink); sponge

Supplies for the Peas & Carrots card:
Digital Images: You & Me (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Tangerine Tango, Wild Wasabi (Stampin’ Up); Solar White (Neenah); designer papers from Green at Heart 6″ x 6″ paper pad (Basic Grey)
Ink: printer ink
Other: markers (Copic); standard circle and petite oval Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders)

That’s the best way I can describe the cards I have today.  I used the same OWH Stars and Stamps sketch for them, as well as the same color scheme so that these would work for last week’s Splitcoastampers Clean and Simple challenge. However, the details such as the sentiments, embossing folders, and designer papers are different.

The first one uses all Stampin’ Up products except for the Nestabilities dies used to cut the ovals.

The second one is also mostly SU, but I used a Provo Craft embossing folder along with the Nesties.  This one fits the OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge to make a “miss you” themed card.

And now I have two more cards for the box I’ll be sending to OWH next week.  Sadly, I didn’t get enough cards made to fill a box (and therefore make the most of postage being spent) in time for the Mother’s Day Half and Half Challenge.  But I’ll still get my Mother’s Day cards to my shipper before the received-by deadline of March 31.

Supplies for today’s cards are from Stampin’ Up unless otherwise noted:

Stamps: Sincere Salutations, Three Little Words
Cardstock: Soft Sky, Whisper White, Soft Sky Prints designer papers
Ink: Soft Sky
Other: Elegant Bouquet embossing folder; petite oval and petite scalloped oval Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders); Victoria embossing folder (Provo Craft); sponge

Here’s a card I made today combining the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge that ends tonight with this week’s Sweet Stop sketch challenge.  As I was grabbing the link to the digi challenge to add it in here, I noticed somebody else used the same images I did.  Great minds think alike, I suppose!  🙂

I kept the sketch pretty simple, even electing not to include the embellishments along the narrow strip.  This card is going in my Operation Write Home box so I wanted to keep it easy to mail.  I did modify the popcorn image just a bit by using the mirror image of it, so that the popcorn person wouldn’t be “looking off the edge” of the card.  (Yes, I have issues.)

Supplies:
Digital Images: Poppin’ By (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Vintage Cream (Papertrey Ink); Creamy Caramel textured, Barely Banana textured, Spring Showers designer papers (Stampin’ Up)
Ink: printer ink
Other: standard circle and petite scalloped circle Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders); markers (Copic)

Hi there.  I’m trying to get back into the swing of things again.  I’m still not quite feeling the new blog theme.  I guess I just haven’t gotten used to it yet.  (edited 3/15/12 to add: I played with it this morning, changed some of my settings, and was able to get my old header to work again – so now I’m liking it better!)

Anyway, here’s a last minute card I made for the Lawnscaping challenge that ends tonight.  It’s a sketch challenge this time, and I chose to stick with the sketch pretty closely instead of tweaking it.  I used a lot of my newest Lawn Fawn products – the butterfly image, the “i love you”, the alphabet to spell “Mom”, and the designer papers! It’s a little hard to tell in the photo, but I popped up the butterfly’s wings with dimensional adhesive. Consider yourself warned – fussy cutting around the butterfly’s antennae is not for the faint of heart. LOL

This card also fits into last week’s OWH Stars & Stamps Midweek Throwdown theme of Mother’s Day cards.  Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!

Supplies:
Stamps: Flutter By, Love ‘n Breakfast, Jessie’s ABCs (Lawn Fawn)
Cardstock: Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); Perfect Plum (Stampin’ Up); designer papers from Bright Side petite paper pack (Lawn Fawn)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: dimensionals (Stampin’ Up); markers (Copic)

Hi there… I just wanted to apologize for the lack of posts over the last week.  I’ve been trying out some new themes, changing up the appearance and such here, and haven’t been spending as much time creating as I would like. Hopefully next week I’ll have some new stuff to share with you!
