Hello!  It’s a little hard to believe March is drawing to a close already and it’s almost Easter.  Time sure seems to be flying!  As today is the fourth Tuesday of the month, we have a new sketch challenge for you to try over at CAS Colours & Sketches.  This week we have a nice little one for you with some simple shapes.

Since I’m thinking ahead to making Mother’s Day and Father’s Day cards for Send a Smile 4 Kids, and I had a Father’s Day stamp that fit the sketch nicely, that’s how I decided the theme for today’s card.  The cardstock for the large ivory rectangle has a bit of a linen texture to it that is really hard to capture in photos.  I used a scrap of designer paper for the banner element and took the green from it for the card base and ink.  The sentiment panel has shims of scrap cardstock raising it up from the card front for a little dimensional interest.  Even though the card has a few layers, it’s still quite clean and simple in style.

Hello!  It’s color challenge week at CAS Colours & Sketches and we have a bright and cheery color combo to work with.

This color combination seemed pretty gender neutral to me so I decided to use it for a birthday card that I can donate to Send a Smile 4 Kids.  The current challenges at AAA Cards and Less is More seemed interesting, so I’ve combined them with the CC&S challenge.  I started off by working with scrap paper to create a mask that divided my card into thirds on a diagonal.  I put the mask in place on my card front and centered a stencil in it.  Then I masked off portions of the stencil with washi tape so I could brush ink in the three challenge colors, keeping the colors separated from each other.  Once I got the colors all done, I removed the masks and stamped the sentiment with black ink.  The card still looked like something was missing, so I scored a trio of lines both above and below the inked portion of the card.

Hello there!  It’s sketch challenge week at CAS Colours & Sketches.

I’ve turned the sketch on its side for my card.  I’m still working on a few more Mother’s Day cards to send to Send a Smile 4 Kids, and I hadn’t used this simple but sweet stamp for a long time.  I found a scrap of designer paper that had flowers similar to the ones on the stamp and used that for the triangular elements of the sketch, adding a die cut scalloped edge to them.  I used colored pencils to color the flowers in the sentiment, but I chickened out on coloring the letters.  I felt like none of my purple pencils really matched the purple card base very well to use them in an area as large as the letters.

I have to confess that it isn’t one of my favorite cards I’ve ever made, but I think it’ll be all right for SAS4K.  Plus, since it doesn’t specifically say “Mother’s Day”, it could also be used as a birthday card that a child could give to his or her mom.  Yay for versatility!

Hello!  I have a few more days to work on Easter cards before I need to send them off to one of the Send A Smile 4 Kids volunteers, and today’s card is the most recent one I’ve made.  I’ve used the current sketch from Freshly Made Sketches but squashed it into a landscape-oriented rectangle.  After I colored and fussy cut the image, I used dimensional adhesive to attach it to the card.  I’m not sure if you can tell in the photo, but the card base is linen-textured cardstock.

Hello hello!  I hope the month of March has gotten off to a good start for you.  As usual at CAS Colours & Sketches, we start off the month with a color challenge.

I’m working on some Mother’s Day cards to include in my next shipment for Send a Smile 4 Kids, so that’s how I chose the theme for today’s card.  I have to confess that I struggled with this color combo for a while before finally deciding to go floral with it.  I inked up the background stamp with the yellow ink and then went around the edges of the stamp with my green ink pad to get a two-tone effect.  The white cardstock has some subtle linen texture, but it doesn’t show well in the photo.
