Good morning!  At CAS Colours & Sketches, I’m hosting one last challenge for the month of February, and for it, I’ve drawn up a very clean and simple sketch.

I’ve actually created two cards with this sketch.  I couldn’t decide which one to share, so I’ll include them both in this post.  The first one, I wasn’t happy with the way the ribbon embellishment turned out, which is why I thought I ought to make the second card.

For the first card, I did some basic masking to create the scene with the bunny and the Easter eggs.  After I sponged the sky and grass, I removed the masks and colored the bunny and eggs with Copics.  The ribbon matches the blue for the eggs better in real life than it does in the photo.  I took the basic color scheme for this card from last week’s CC&S color challenge, but with the blue for the sky and the green for the grass added in, it wouldn’t have counted for that challenge.

I didn’t have a lot of time to work on the second card.  When I was making my card for CC&S challenge #258 a few weeks ago, I stamped several card fronts before I was happy with the one I used on my card for that challenge.  For today’s card I took one of the leftover fronts and die cut some of the flowers from it to get my focal panel for this card.  Then I added a ribbon embellishment in the same style I used for the bunny card.  I used dimensional adhesive to pop up the floral panel from the card base.

I used the mirror image of the sketch for the bunny card so the bunny would be “looking” into the center of the card, rather than off the edge.  That’s just more pleasing to my eye.  I wasn’t really thinking when I was assembling the flower card and just did it the same as the first.  LOL

Hello there!  This week at CAS Colours & Sketches we have a color palette for you to work with.  Hopefully the colors will help us all get into a springtime mood!

I will confess that when I was coming up with this challenge idea back in January, one of my main objectives was to choose colors that we hadn’t used at CC&S in a while.  I didn’t really think much at the time about what I was going to create with them.  So when I settled down to create my sample card for this challenge and looked at the colors… I drew a blank.  I eventually came up with a few disjointed ideas.  The plum and peach colors reminded me of sherbet, but then I wasn’t sure what to do with the blue.  The colors also vaguely suggested a beachy sunset theme but I doubted my ability to pull that off successfully.  Finally I remembered that I should add a few more Easter cards to the stash I’m accumulating for Send a Smile 4 Kids, and that I had this Easter egg image that would be suitable with the colors.  The layout for this card somewhat follows the current challenge at CAS(E) this Sketch!, turned on its side.  I used colored pencils blended with odorless mineral spirits to color the image.  The peach color matches the peach sentiment strip better in real life than in the photo.  I’ve used an extra layer of scrap cardstock behind the focal panel to give it a little more dimension off the card base.

one more valentine

Hello!  This is just a quick post to share one last valentine for this season.  I made this one for my husband, using the colors from the current challenge at The Paper Players.

The bunny was stamped, colored, and fussy cut.  I cut a circle from white textured cardstock and backed it with a piece of red cardstock.   When I inserted the bunny in the hole, I used dimensional adhesive behind his ears to really pop them out from the circle.  A cute little sentiment finished the card.

The challenge blog Less is More is celebrating their 7th birthday!  What an awesome milestone!  I’ve created today’s card for the occasion, based somewhat on the current sketch challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches.  I die cut the note several times and glued them together in a stack, and then coated the top layer with a more liberal dose of Wink of Stella than what shows in the photo.  The white cardstock has a slight linen texture that also is hard to photograph.

Hello!  It’s the second Tuesday of the month, which means it’s time for a sketch challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches.  Yours truly is hosting the challenges there this month, and once again I’ve reached back into my personal archives for inspiration for the challenge.  I’ve turned this card from 2011 into the sketch for this week’s challenge.

I wasn’t loving the first few ideas I had for my card for this challenge.  I knew I needed to make a birthday card for my son, so I was looking for ways to use the sketch for that.  I browsed through my stamps and rediscovered a cute otter set, and the proverbial light bulb went off in my head.  However, in order to use the otter image, I was going to need to manipulate the sketch.  So I’ve turned it on its side and flipped it mirror-image.  (I’ll include the inverted version of the sketch below the photo of the card.)  I had a piece of watercolor paper on which I’d made a blue wash, intending it for a different project a while ago, but decided against using at that time.  It came in handy now for die cutting the waves.  I opted to use a scallop die to make waves with peaks, rather than gently rolling waves.  Because the scallops add some width to the strips element of the sketch, I chose to use only three strips, rather than the five shown in the sketch.  The otter and his birthday gift were stamped on a scrap of white cardstock, colored with Copics, and fussy cut before I adhered them to the card.  The colors for the present are the colors for my son’s college.

Hello there!  This month it’s my turn to create the color combinations and sketches for the challenges at CAS Colours & Sketches! I’m excited about it, and I hope you’ll join in and share your artwork with us!

For this week’s color challenge, I decided to put an updated spin on a card I made back in 2007, before I had a blog.  (It’s a little embarrassing to admit that the link is for a scan of the card, because this also was before I started using a camera to take photos of my cards!)  I’ve swapped out the colors used on that card for colors that are currently offered by Stampin’ Up.  Of course, as with all of our CC&S challenges, you don’t need to use Stampin’ Up products – we just use their color names as a point of reference.

I decided to use the current sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch! for the layout of my card.  Instead of putting the sentiment on its own strip, I split the focal panel and stamped the sentiment in the gap, directly on the card base.  I used a few pieces of scrap cardstock as shims to give a little dimension to the white panels.  To get the two-tone effect on the blossoms, I inked the stamp with the lighter pink first, and then sponged some of the darker pink ink onto the stamp, before pressing the stamp on the cardstock.
