Hello!  Over at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown the rest of the design team and I are ready for another fun year of challenges!  We’re also excited to be showing off our redesigned blog.  January starts off with a sketch challenge, and this month’s hostess, Mynnette, has come up with a nice one that can be kept clean and simple or dressed up all fancy.

I’ve decided to let designer papers do most of the work on my card.  The papers and the sentiment stamp are from two different companies, so it was a nice little surprise to discover how well the snowflakes on the two coordinate.  I added tiny pearls to the snowflakes in the sentiment to tie in with the larger scattered pearls.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Be sure to see what the rest of the design team has made.  Then share your own creation with us by linking it at the 52{C}CT blog by 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Friday, January 10.  We’d love to see what you make with our sketch!

Hello!  It’s the first Monday of the month, which means it’s time for a new challenge at Cards in Envy.  This time we’re getting into an October mood with Halloween cards – whether they are scary, creepy, silly or fun, anything that’s Halloweenish and is A2 sized and fits in a standard A2 envelope will work for this challenge.

I’ve always tended to focus on the fun aspects of Halloween – dressing up in costume and trick or treating.  I have to admit I’ve never much been a fan of skeletons and the Grim Reaper and the darker side of Halloween.  So in browsing through my stamps, I finally settled on creating a black cat wearing a witch’s hat.  The cat and the hat were stamped on a scrap piece of white cardstock, colored with Copics, and fussy cut, and then I attached the hat onto the cat’s head.  I used the current sketch from Seize the Sketch for the layout, turning the sketch on its side.  To make the banner tails match up evenly, I put all three layers together with temporary adhesive and cut them all at the same time.  The temporary adhesive allowed me to detach them and realign them, using permanent adhesive the second time.

I just realized that the dimension of the banner combined with the camera angle make it look like the black mat isn’t cut evenly where the banner meets it.  Trust me, it’s all even in real life.

So now it’s your turn!  Check out the Cards in Envy site for all the challenge details, and share your Halloween creation(s) with us by 7:00 p.m. eastern time Sunday, October 20.  We’d love to have you play along with us!

Supplies:
Stamps: Critters in the ‘Burbs, Hats Off to You (Lawn Fawn); Sweet & Spooky (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black, Whisper White, Razzleberry Lemonade designer series paper (Stampin’ Up)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: markers (Copic); dimensionals (SU)

The eighth Labor Day Virtual Card Making Party challenge presented by Operation Write Home was to create a bee themed card.   Because I tend to think of bees as more of a spring thing than fall, it took me all week to figure out what I wanted to do for this challenge.  Today I remembered I had this bee tree image already stamped with the background sponged in. I’d started to use it on a different project a while ago but then shifted gears on that one and put this image away in a folder.  It looked like it would work with this week’s OWH Stars & Stamps sketch if I turned the sketch on its side.   So after some coloring and tweaking, I combined the two challenge ideas into one card.

I tried to keep the colors from looking too spring-y.  The “ribbon” banners are scraps of the same color cardstock I used to mat the image panel, but I’ve stamped them with a denim-textured stamp in the same color ink.  The blue sentiment panel is popped up with a few cardstock shims to accommodate the thickness of the image panel.  (I guess I could have planned it out to butt them up against each other, but too late now.)

So there’s another any occasion card for my Operation Write Home stash.  Yay!  Thanks for stopping by today.

Supplies:
Stamps: Lucky You (Lizzie Anne Designs); Just Jeans (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Soft Suede (SU); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Bashful Blue, Soft Suede, Certainly Celery (SU); Onyx Black (VersaFine)
Other: markers (Copic); sponges

I’ve needed to make a few sympathy cards lately.  Today I’m sharing one of them.  It uses the color scheme for this week’s Dynamic Duos challenge, gray and black.  The idea is very similar to some of the one-layer cards I’ve made recently, but this time I’ve added a mat to the focal panel and layered them onto a card base of a third color.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies:
Stamps: Lovely as a Tree (Stampin’ Up); Everyday Sayings (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Whisper White, Basic Black, Basic Gray (SU)
Ink: Basic Gray (SU); Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: sponge

This week the girls over at Inkspirational have provided a card to “CASE” as the inspiration piece.  Over the years I’ve come across several different definitions for “CASE”, but my favorite is “Copy And Selectively Edit” – which means, to me, to copy some of the elements of the original piece but change some of the other things.

I really liked the clean, simple layout of the card provided in the Inkspirational prompt.  I actually made several cards with it because it was a fantastic way to get some last minute cards made for the box I’m sending to Operation Write Home.  I discovered that using this layout, I can quickly create three cards from just two sheets of cardstock (plus a few scraps for the sentiment panels).  For the sake of brevity, though, I’m sharing only two of the cards in this blog post.

First is a card that follows the prompt card pretty closely.  I’ve used different stamps and colors, and my sentiment panel is an oval rather than a circle, and I didn’t use textured cardstock for the card base.  But otherwise you can definitely tell that the original card provided inspiration for mine.

For my second card, I used a different ink color, and I turned the layout on its side:

When I started to attach the image panels to the card bases, I felt like they disappeared into the bases.  I added some sponging to the edges of the image panel on one card (not shown here) but wasn’t really loving the look when the card was all put together.  So for the two cards shown here, I used the scrap pieces of cardstock from cutting down the image panels to create a shim to put underneath each corner of the image panel.  This raises the image panel up off the card a bit and gives it a bit more definition, but not so much as using dimensional adhesive would.

But now I’d better get back to finishing up that box of cards for OWH.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Hello! Happy Friday! Are you ready for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge?

This week’s challenge is Happy Birthday, Fellas. Make a birthday card for a guy of any age from 1 to 101! Just be sure you use at least one digital image for the focal point of your card. You’re not required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do love it when our participants use them.

I noticed I’d had this image for a while and hadn’t used it yet, so I figured this challenge was a perfect opportunity to change that. Tank the cat is in a party mood with his hat and his horn. The “Celebrate!” sentiment comes with the image. However, I’ve used my photo editing program to separate the two so I can print them individually. The designer papers are actually from a set of digital designs, too, but the company that created them is no longer in business. I’ve been trying to play catchup on some of the OWH Stars and Stamps sketches that I’ve missed. Today’s card uses sketch #150.

So, now it’s your turn to show us what you can create for a guy! Link your project at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, March 28. Remember that for every project you submit throughout the month of March, you will get one entry to be eligible for winning 3 digital images of your choice from the Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps store! Be sure to play along every week, and to go visit the rest of the design teams’ blogs for more inspiration. Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies:
Digital Image and sentiment: Celebrate (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury Ivory (Gina K. Designs); Naturals Ivory (Stampin’ Up); Vintage Birthday digital designer paper (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Ink: printer ink
Other: markers (Copic); petite oval Nestabilities die (Spellbinders)

Hi!  I have two cards to share with you today, so I’ll just cut the chitchat and get right to them.

First is a “mom” themed card I made for Operation Write Home.  I figured this sentiment would work for Mother’s Day or for any time one of our heroes wants to send a note to his or her mother.  I used OWH Stars and Stamps sketch #164 for the layout, but turned it on its side and added an extra panel for the sentiment. This is a great sketch for showing off some designer paper.

My second card is also for Operation Write Home.  This time I’m giving someone’s dad the opportunity to receive a card.  The layout started out as the CAS – Colours and Sketches challenge #16 layout, but I stretched it into a rectangle and turned it on its side.  This layout had me stumped for a while.  Finally I realized how closely this image stamp matches my washi tape and decided to combine them into a card.

So there they are – two more cards for the box I’m sending out to OWH early next week.  Remember, if you’re creating cards for OWH, the deadline for your shipper to receive Mother’s Day cards is March 31.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies for the Mom card:
Stamps: It’s Good to be Queen (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Poppy Parade, Whisper White (Stampin’ Up); designer paper from Nordic Holiday 6″ x 6″ paper pad
Ink: Poppy Parade (SU)
Other: half pearls (KaiserCraft)

Supplies for the Father’s Day card:
Stamps: All I Have Seen, All Year Cheer II (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Mellow Moss, Basic Black (SU); Pure Luxury Ivory (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Mellow Moss (SU); Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: washi tape (We R Memory Keepers)

I decided to take a little break this morning from Christmas preparations, and I made a quick card for the Freshly Made Sketch challenge that’s about to end.  I turned the sketch on its side for my card.  It had been a while since I’d used any of my Lizzie Anne Designs things, so I pulled out a couple stamp sets and some designer paper and put it all to use here.  (Although Lizzie Anne Designs no longer is in business itself, their stamps are still available through the online dealer Gourmet Rubber Stamps.) The ribbon glared a little bit in the photo; in real life it’s the same shade as the yellow cardstock. I popped up the flower with dimensional adhesive so it wouldn’t seem “lumpy” over the ribbon.

And now I have another card for my Operation Write Home stash.  🙂  Thanks for stopping by today!

Supplies:
Stamps: Le Jardin, So Much Love (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: So Saffron, Very Vanilla (Stampin’ Up); designer paper from French Floral Pretty Papers (LAD)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: markers (Copic); So Saffron grosgrain ribbon, dimensionals (SU)

Today’s card uses the colors for this week’s Dynamic Duos challenge.  I still had my Confetti Cream cardstock out from my leafy card spree, so I used it again for my card base.  This card came together pretty easily, and it’s going to be donated to Operation Write Home.  I think it’ll be a cute one for one of our military men or women stationed overseas to send home to a child.

Supplies:
Stamps: Little Monsters (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Confetti Cream, Basic Black, Lucky Limeade (Stampin’ Up)
Ink: Onyx Black (VersaFine)
Other: markers (Copic); Swiss Dots embossing folder (ProvoCraft)

Hello!  It’s Friday!  I am SO definitely looking forward to this weekend!  Tonight is our high school’s first home football game of the season.  Both of my sons are in the marching band this year so our whole family will be out at the stadium tonight supporting the team – and yes, I’m excited to see the band’s performance, too!  Since Monday is Labor Day, it will be nice to have a little break from the early alarm for getting the boys up and ready for school.

And another fun thing about it being Friday is that it’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week our challenge is Something New, Old, and Blue. The idea is to create something using a digital image for the focal point, and to use one of your newest supplies, one of your older supplies, and something blue. Share your work on the SNSDC website by next Thursday, September 6. You can use a digital image from any company, but we especially love seeing what our challenge participants create with Sweet ‘n Sassy digital images. Check out the website for all the details.

This challenge did take a bit of thinking, but I got it all pulled together in a card that I think is pretty cute.  My “something new” is a digi image I just got a couple weeks ago; this is my first time using it.  This is Stanley Penguin.  Isn’t he darling?  I have several old-ish supplies on here… the snowflake print paper has been in my stash for at least 3 or 4 years, and the punches I used to create the snowflake embellishment are older than that.  My blue card base fits the last requirement, and I know I’ll need to line it with a white layer before popping the card into my stash of winter-themed cards for Operation Write Home.  (I’ll make sure the snowflake is glued down really well, too.)

I think my subconscious was channeling our high school’s colors while I was working on this card.  The “official” colors are blue and white, but the marching band and sports teams also use a lot of black on their uniforms.

The layout for this card is Freshly Made Sketch #50.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you have a fabulous weekend!  Take some time to see what the rest of the SNSDC design team has created – links to their blogs are in my left sidebar.

Supplies:
Digital Image and Sentiment: Stanley Penguin (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Brilliant Blue, Bordering Blue, Basic Black (Stampin’ Up); Solar White (Neenah); Winter Wonderland paper pack (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Ink: printer ink
Other: snowflake punches (EK Success); markers (Copic); snowflake embossing folder (Sizzix); half pearl (KaiserCraft)

Here’s a quick and easy birthday card I put together using the current Dynamic Duos color scheme.  I think the paisley works well enough for this card to be gender neutral.  What do you think?

Since there isn’t much else for me to say about the card, I’ll just let it speak for itself:

Supplies:
Stamps: birthday sentiment (Studio G); Jolies Fleurs (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); River Rock, Basic Black (Stampin’ Up)
Ink: River Rock (SU); Onyx Black (VersaFine)
Other: ticket corner punch, brads (SU); Paisley embossing folder (ProvoCraft)

Here’s what I came up with (just under the wire, eek!) for the July Sketch For You To Try.  It’s another Halloween card for Operation Write Home.  I tried to take some of the seriousness out of the sentiment by pairing it with the cute cat from Lawn Fawn.  The color scheme comes from this week’s Dynamic Duos challenge.  The espresso colored panel is embossed with an embossing folder that I chose because it made me think of the wind swirling around on a spooky night; sadly, it doesn’t show in the photo very well. Sigh. Anyway, here’s the card:

Sorry this post is kind of short and maybe not quite coherent… I have the TV paused (thanks to the DVR) so I can post this before heading back to watch the Olympic women’s gymnastic finals.  🙂  Go Team USA!

Supplies:
Stamps: Critters in the ‘Burbs, Hats Off to You (Lawn Fawn); Looks Like Spring (SU); Sweet & Spooky (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Kraft, Early Espresso (SU); Pure Luxury Ivory (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso (SU); Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: markers (Copic); Crumb Cake seam binding, dimensionals and black brads (SU); D’Vine Swirls embossing folder (ProvoCraft); standard circle Nestabilities die (Spellbinders)

After a fun weekend spent with my extended family, I finally got back into the creative swing of things and made a card for the current Dynamic Duos challenge.  This week they have a monochromatic color scheme.  I chose the Stars & Stamps Blog sketch #127 for my layout, but enlarged the focal panel a bit so I could fit the topiary image on it three times.  And now I have another any occasion card to add to the box of cards I’m sending to Operation Write Home at the end of the week for the Duty. Honor. Cards. drive!

All supplies used for this card are from Stampin’ Up except the stamps:
Stamps: High Hellos (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: River Rock, Naturals Ivory, Always Artichoke, Tea & Crumpets designer series paper
Ink: Always Artichoke
Other: River Rock ribbon

It’s getting down to the wire for me to finish up Father’s Day cards for my husband, my dad, and my father-in-law!  Today I’m sharing the card I made for my family to send my father-in-law.

The layout for this card is a tweak of this week’s Sweet Stop Sketch turned on its side.  The background was created by watercoloring on white cardstock with several different ink colors.  The red squares were trimmed from the top of the main background panel.  I stamped the cattails image three times, omitting parts of it on the right side of the panel to allow room for the sentiment.  I also added in a grass image as “filler”.

Supplies:
Stamps: images from Serene Silhouettes (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps); sentiment from Dream Big (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Soft Sky, Basic Black (Stampin’ Up); Solar White (Neenah)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: corner rounder punch (EK Success); Soft Sky, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, and Riding Hood Red ink refills (SU)

Hello!  I have some happy news today:  I was recently asked to join the Design Team for the Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps Digi Challenge blog!  I’m so looking forward to using the awesome Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps digital images and creating with this fantastic group of ladies.

This week’s SNSDC theme is to make a project depicting your favorite holiday.  Christmas is the holiday I love most, and one of my favorite activities during Christmastime is decorating our Christmas tree.  For me, getting the ornaments out of their storage boxes and hanging them on the tree is almost like visiting old friends.  I just enjoy it so much!  We still use some of the same ornaments that my husband and I bought for our first Christmas tree in 1992, and we’ve collected many more throughout our years together.  We have several ornaments that originally belonged to my grandmother, so those have a lot of sentimental value to me, too.

So for my project, I made a card using the Rhubarb Trims the Tree digital image.  Sweet Rhubarb the bear is hanging ornaments and a garland with a little help from his feathered friend.  I had a really hard time matching my markers to the designer paper, and I can honestly say that they coordinate better in real life than what the photo shows.  The layout I used for my card is this week’s Freshly Made Sketches layout.  I figured this would be a good start to the Christmas cards I’ll want to make for Operation Write Home.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Now go check out what the rest of the SNSDC Design Team made!  Links to their blogs are in the left sidebar.  Then use a digital image to create something showing your favorite holiday, and share it with us at the SNSDC site!

Supplies used on today’s card:
Digital Image: Rhubarb Trims the Tree (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps)
Cardstock: Cherry Cobbler (Stampin’ Up); Vintage Cream (Papertrey Ink); designer paper from Winter Wonderland paper pack (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Ink: printer ink; Cherry Cobbler (SU)
Other: Labels One Nestabilities die (Spellbinders); markers (Copic); mini star brad (The Paper Studio); dimensionals (SU); sponge
