Hello!  Welcome to my stop on the Operation Write Home World Card Making Day Blog Hop! I’m excited to be joining over 100 other card makers in celebrating the fun and joy of creating cards by sharing cards made for the purpose of sending to our military members stationed overseas.  Most of these cards are blank inside so that our service members may write to their family and friends back at home.  Others contain notes from the cardmakers to thank these men and women for serving our country.

This year, the blog hop is showcasing a theme of thanks.  The card makers were also asked to use one of the many OWH Stars and Stamps sketches to guide them in designing their cards.  I’ve chosen sketch #183 and decided to make an AnyHero card using it.  So later on, I’ll use this card to write a note to a service member stating my appreciation for their dedication to our country.  I did add an extra layer to the sketch so that the star shaped brads wouldn’t poke through the card front to the inside of the card.  After seeing this star design embossing folder used for so many cards in previous OWH blog hops, I finally decided a few months ago that I should get one, too.  The white background panel and the large white star are made from a textured cardstock with a subtle linen weave appearance that’s often difficult for me to capture on film.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you enjoy the hop and come back to visit my blog again, and that you’ll join me in creating cards for this wonderful cause!  Click on the OWH badge at the top of this post to find out where you should hop next.

Hello!  I have a little bit of happy news to announce today – I’m the hostess for this month’s challenges at CAS – Colours and Sketches!  I hope that you’ll give the challenges a try and have fun with them!

A new month always gets started off with a color challenge.  The colors for today’s challenge have a special meaning to me.  My husband and I are celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary today, so I’ve chosen a ruby red and a charcoal grey that best replicate the colors worn by our wedding party.  Every wedding needs “something blue”, so I’ve chosen one of my favorite shades of blue for that.

I figured that since I needed to make an anniversary card for my husband, I might as well tie the challenge colors into it.  I liked the card I made for last week’s CAS – Colours and Sketches challenge so much, and I’m short on crafting time this week, so my original plan was to duplicate it with this week’s colors.  (Last week’s card is already boxed up to send to Operation Write Home.)  However, my Basic Gray ink pad needed to be reinked, and even after waiting for the ink to soak in for a bit I was getting splotchy images when I tried using it.  So I did some searching around different websites and found this really clean and simple layout over at Seize the Sketch.  I figured the simplicity would work well for a card for my husband, since he’s not a big fan of a lot of frou-frou and flowers and hearts and mushy stuff.  I turned the sketch on its side.  I’m not sure how well it shows in the photo, but I did use textured cardstock for the card base, to give it a little visual interest.

Whether or not my husband notices the colors remains to be seen, LOL!

Anyway, now it’s your turn.  Go check out the other design team members’ cards at the CAS – Colours and Sketches blog – they’ve done an amazing job this week!  Then show us what you’re inspired to create using these colors.  If you don’t have the exact Stampin’ Up colors, that’s all right – simply use whatever you have that matches them closely. You have until 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, October 9 to link your card at the challenge post.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Today, October 1, marks the start of the Hope You Can Cling To challenge season at Splitcoaststampers.com.  Each day throughout October, a new cardmaking challenge is presented.  (Some days have more than one challenge!)  The crafting community makes cards according to the challenges, and the cards are donated to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to be used by cancer patients and their families.  Cardmaking participants are eligible to win some pretty terrific prizes from various crafting companies.  There’s a lot of fun and fellowship and crafty goodness involved, and it’s for a worthy cause!

There were three challenges posted today.  I’ve combined the “Flat is Fabulous” challenge to create a card with no lumps or bumps with the current Dynamic Duos challenge using shades of pink.  I used the same basic layout from last week’s CAS – Colours and Sketches sketch challenge.  This time I masked off a diagonal area and sponged it with Blushing Bride ink before stamping the ribbon hearts in Primrose Pink.  I added a sentiment and ta-da – I had an easy peasy clean and simple card that was quick to make.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you’ll consider joining in Hope You Can Cling To!
