Well hi there!  It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for a new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches.  This time we have some summery nature-inspired colors for you.

I gave in to the instinct to do something floral with the colors.  It just seemed right.  I’ve used the CAS(E) this Sketch! challenge which closes in a little while for the layout of my card.  I also wanted to join in the current Less is More challenge to use splatters on a one-layer card.  So for my card, I started off by cutting a rectangle into an index card to use as a mask on my card front.  I attached the mask with temporary adhesive and then sponged around the edges of it to define a rectangular area on the card.  Then I dipped a paintbrush in a few drops of reinker, held the brush over the card front, and tapped the brush so the ink would splatter pretty randomly over the card.  I set that aside to dry thoroughly and went to work stamping the rose and a couple of leaves onto a scrap of white cardstock.  Then I fussy cut the rose and leaves and assembled them together.  I had a scrap of Pool Party cardstock just the right size for the sentiment banner.  Once I decided on the sentiment I wanted to use, I stamped it with Pear Pizzazz ink and notched the end of the banner into a fishtail shape.  The ink splatters on the card front were dry by this time, so I removed the mask, attached the banner to the card and then added the rose on top of it.  Lots of small steps, but it was all pretty easy.

  2. LOVE your masked, inked and splattered panel, it is a perfect backdrop for the beautiful layered rose. Wonderful use of the colours and sketch. Hugs Bev x

  4. This sentiment works just perfectly for the card you designed. Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing at Less is More!

  6. This is so beautiful. Love the splattered panel you created with the masking technique.

  7. A stunning and clever splatter take here but sadly by adding the banner, rose and leaves separately to the panel your card is no longer on the one layer. So sorry but hope you’ll play along again sometime. Thanks for sharing Sarah (Less is More DT)

  8. I love your card, it’s so pretty. Your masked rectangle looks fabulous but the additional layers won’t qualify for an OLC at Less is More, such a shame as I love this!
    Thanks for sharing with us.

  9. Sorry I’m a little late visiting this time!
This is lovely but as the others mentioned it seems you forgot the one layer element this time… it’s so easily done!
    DO join us again!
    Thanks so much
