Today I’m combining several challenges for one card.  The current Dynamic Duos color challenge is to use silver with navy (or, for Stampin’ Up users, Midnight Muse).  I’ve been wanting to get back into the Lawnscaping challenges again for a while, and finally got an idea for their tags challenge. The layout for this card is this week’s OWH Stars & Stamps sketch.  I think this fits the “winter fun” theme for this week’s OWH Midweek Throwdown, too.

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do with these colors.  I didn’t really want to make a Christmas-y card, and couldn’t come up with any ideas I liked for a birthday card.  Finally I settled on a winter scene with the cute penguin image, and chose a sentiment that would be appropriate for a card to send to Operation Write Home.  I’ve had these big black eyelets and snowflake eyelets for a number of years.  I don’t know what company made either of them, but I do remember I bought the snowflakes off of eBay.  I still have a bunch more of them, but it felt good to put some of them to use. I used a little bit of shimmer paint to create the “snow” for the penguin to stand on, so he wouldn’t look like he was just floating on the tag.  I stamped the penguin on a scrap piece of cardstock, colored him, fussy cut him, and then adhered him to the tag.  The tag is attached to the card with dimensional adhesive, to accommodate the ribbon tied through the black eyelet and the thickness of the snowflake eyelets.
