Hello!  It’s the fourth Thursday of the month, which means it’s sketch time again at CAS – Colours and Sketches.  I’ve enjoyed hosting and coming up with the challenge ideas during February and seeing what the challenge participants have been creating!

This week we have a sketch challenge for you.  I gave a sneak peek of the sketch in yesterday’s post – but for that card, I turned the sketch on its side and then flipped it horizontally to use the mirror image of it.  It worked out better that way because of the direction the bunny image is facing.   For today’s card, I’ve used the sketch in almost its original format.  I added a layer for a bit more color.  I’ve used a butterfly in place of the starburst shape; you are welcome to use any non-rectangular shape there.  I’ve stamped swirly flourishes on both the banner element and the butterfly, and I added some sponging around the edges of the butterfly.  The butterfly’s wings are popped up with dimensional adhesive, but the body is glued directly to the banner.  A few rhinestones add a bit of sparkle to the card.  I took the color scheme from this week’s OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge to use turquoise or teal.

I realize that here in the United States it might seem strange to have a “mother” card in late February, since Mother’s Day isn’t until May.  But now is the time for me to start making Mother’s Day cards to send to Operation Write Home so the troops have time to send them back home for the occasion.  And with the sentiment being worded the way it is, this card could even be used as a birthday card or just as a “thinking of you” type card.

Be sure to visit the CAS – Colours and Sketches blog to see the terrific cards the rest of the design team has made.  I’m sure they’d love it if you left them comments, too.  Then show us what you can do with this sketch!  Link your card to the CAS – Colours and Sketches site by 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, March 5.  I hope you’ll join in the fun there!

All supplies for this card are from Stampin’ Up.
Stamps: Priceless, Delightful Dozen
Cardstock: Cool Caribbean, Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Tempting Turquoise
Other: Beautiful Butterflies die, rhinestones, dimensionals

Hello!  Today’s card is a very CAS one for the current Dynamic Duos challenge.  It just might include a sneak peek for the CAS – Colours and Sketches challenge that goes live on Thursday, too.  🙂

I’ve created a one layer card, stamping the tulips in a border and then coloring them with Copics.  The bunny was stamped on a scrap of white cardstock, colored, fussy cut, and attached to the card with dimensional adhesive.  Quick and easy!  I opted to not put a sentiment on this card.  Since it is going to be sent to Operation Write Home soon, and it’s getting pretty close to their deadline for mailing Easter cards to them, I wanted the card to still be useful throughout the rest of this spring and early summer.

Thanks for stopping by today! Your comments are always read and appreciated.

Supplies:
Stamps: Happy Easter (Lawn Fawn)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: dimensionals (Stampin’ Up); markers (Copic)

Hello!  It’s stash challenge time again at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown.  This week we’re pulling out the metallic papers and cardstocks and using them on our Christmas or winter cards.

The amount of time it took to actually make today’s card was a lot less than the time I spent pondering what to create!  Finally I settled on a very old sketch from the OWH Stars & Stamps sketch archive which fit this snowman image, and I decided to use some of the copper cardstock I’ve unintentionally been hoarding ever since Stampin’ Up discontinued it several years ago.  I heat embossed the snowman and used an embossing folder on the copper cardstock.  I added some sponging and a bit of direct-to-paper distressing to the designer paper.  The paper already had a distressed look in the bottom left corner, so I tried to match the look all the way around the panel.

And there’s one more card to add to the stockpile I’m creating to send to Operation Write Home in the fall.

What kind of metallic paper will you use for your card?  Be sure to share your work with us at the 52{C}CT site by 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Friday, February 28.  We’d love to see what you create!  Thanks for stopping by today.

Supplies:
Stamps: A Beautiful Season (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Naturals White, Brushed Copper (SU); “Jack Frost” designer paper from Blitzen collection (Basic Grey)
Ink: Chocolate Chip (SU); VersaMark (Tsukineko)
Other: copper embossing powder (Ranger); Snowflakes embossing folder (ProvoCraft); sponge

Hello!  It’s time for a new color challenge over at CAS – Colours and Sketches.  We’re hoping that these colors will help chase away any lingering winter doldrums that might be hanging around.

I’ve made another love-themed card to add to my stash for Operation Write Home.  The layout is from a recent OWH Stars & Stamps sketch challenge.  I stamped the rabbit on white cardstock, colored him, and fussy cut him. Then I used dimensional adhesive to pop up his ears and body out of the die cut circle window.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you’ll check out what the rest of the design team members have made, and then share your own creation with us at the CAS – Colours and Sketches site!  You have until 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, February 26 to link your card.

Supplies:
Stamps: Flopsey Bunch of Hearts (My Favorite Things)
Cardstock: Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight, Strawberry Slush (Stampin’ Up); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: dimensionals (SU); markers (Copic); standard circle Nestabilities die (Spellbinders)

Today’s card is a quick one I made for Operation Write Home.  The colors are from this week’s challenge at Dynamic Duos.  Since OWH needs love-themed cards all year round, I wanted to make one that didn’t look like a Valentine and that could be sent to anyone of any age.  I stamped the penguin on a scrap of white cardstock, colored him, and fussy cut him.  I drew a line across the card base to give the penguin something to stand on, attached him to the card, and added a sentiment.  Fast, easy, and (if I say so myself) pretty darn cute!

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’re having a great week.

Supplies:
Stamps: Critters in the Snow (Lawn Fawn); Year Round Sentiments (Hero Arts)
Cardstock: Daffodil Delight (Stampin’ Up); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)

Hello!  It’s Cards in Envy challenge introduction day, and we have a great color challenge this time!  We’d like to see you use red, pink, and/or white as the main colors of your A2 sized card that can be mailed at the standard first-class postage rate.

I’ve used the current sketch from CAS – Colours and Sketches for my layout, and I let some designer paper do most of the rest of the work for me.  I added some sponging to the edges of the triangle and the heart.  The heart is popped up from the card base with dimensional adhesive, but it’s still flat enough to be mailed without needing additional postage.

Be sure to check out the Cards in Envy site to see what the rest of the CIE design team has done with these colors!  Then create your own card with this color scheme and share it with us by 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2.  We’d love to have you join us!

Supplies:
Stamps: Short & Sweet (Stampin’ Up)
Cardstock: Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs); Riding Hood Red (SU); designer papers from Two Scoops 6″ x 6″ paper pad (Basic Grey)
Ink: Riding Hood Red (SU)
Other: heart dies (Sizzix); sponge

It’s the third Saturday of the month, and this week at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown we have a theme challenge – Christmas landscapes.  Here in my part of Virginia we received about 15 inches of snow Thursday, so creating a snowy scene for my card seemed like the natural thing to do.

I stamped the trees and the bird first.  Then I created a mask for the ground line so that when I colored the sky, the snow would stay white.  I used a color duster brush with three shades of blue ink to create the blue sky.  I made sure the ink was all dry before adding shimmer paint to the snow lines and the trees to mimic sunlight shining on the snow.  I toyed with the idea of adding a sentiment toward the bottom right corner, but in the end I decided not to use one.  That way, when I send the card to Operation Write Home later this year, the eventual sender of the card can use it for any winter occasion or even just as a “thinking of you” card.

Be sure to check out all the gorgeous cards the rest of the design team has made!  Then share your own Christmas/winter landscape card with us at the 52{C}CT site.  You have until 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Friday, February 21 to link your card.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Hello!  It’s time for the first sketch challenge of the month over at CAS – Colours and Sketches!  When I drafted this one, I thought about how so many sketches have a lot of rectangular or square elements, so I wanted to break away from that trend.  So there’s a large triangle that takes up one entire side of the card, and a place to use any non-rectangular shape.

I ended up turning the sketch on its side.  I let designer papers do a lot of the work for me, and ended up with the only stamping being the sentiment.  I felt the angles of the hexagon played along with the angles of the triangle, and I’ve used dimensional adhesive to set the hexagons off a bit from the card front.  The mats add a little more color to the card.

So now it’s your turn!  We’d love to see what you can create with this sketch!  Share your card with us at the CAS – Colours and Sketches site by 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, February 19.

Supplies:
Stamps: All Guy (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Naturals White (Stampin’ Up); “Cannon”, “Peapod” and “Ivy” designer papers from Oh Baby! Boy collection (Basic Grey)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: hexagon Nestabilities dies (Spellbinders); dimensionals (SU)

Hello!  Today’s card combines the current Dynamic Duos color challenge with the Lawnscaping challenge that expires tonight.  If the little birds with hearts seem familiar to you, yes, you’re right, I did feature them in a post last week.  The ones on today’s card started out as an attempt at last week’s card but then I had an “oops” moment when I stamped last week’s sentiment, so I set the stamped strip aside.  I was able to cut off the oops and use the good stuff for today’s card.  No sense in wasting the good stamping!

Thanks for stopping by today!  Comments are always read and appreciated – they really do brighten my day!

Supplies:
Stamps: Bannerific, My Silly Valentine (Lawn Fawn); So Much Love (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock: Pistachio Pudding, Blushing Bride (Stampin’ Up); Pure Luxury White (Gina K. Designs)

Other: markers (Copic); Swiss Dots embossing folder (ProvoCraft)

Hello!  It’s time for another color challenge at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown.  Jacqueline, our hostess, has given us some bright, bold colors from which to choose and to pair them up with gold.

I opted to use the minimum requirement of three of the four colors, and I decided to use the current layout from Seize the Sketch for my card.  I had a hard time at first figuring out what to do for the half-circle part of the sketch, but then I figured this die with the stars around the outside of the circle would tie in with the tiny stars on the stocking in the middle.  The focal panel is attached with dimensional adhesive to accommodate the prongs of the gold brads. I’m wishing I’d chosen a different color green.  In real life, the ink matches the cardstock much better than the way it’s captured in the photo.

And now it’s your turn to show us what you can create!  We’d love it if you joined our challenge this week.  You have until 1:00 pm Eastern time Friday, February 14 to link your card at the 52{C}CT site. Thanks for stopping by today!

Hello there!   This month it’s my turn to create the color combinations and sketches for the challenges at CAS – Colours and Sketches!  I’m excited about it, and I hope you’ll join in and share your artwork with us!

Today starts off a color challenge.  I’ve picked some colors found in nature because I thought they’d be good colors for a wide variety of cards.  Since my husband’s birthday was yesterday, I decided to use the colors to make his birthday card.  To get the colored background, I swiped my blue and green ink pads across a piece of glossy cardstock.  I quickly learned that using a rather dry ink pad does NOT work well for this technique!  I let the ink sit on the cardstock for a minute or so, and then buffed the cardstock with a tissue to remove excess ink.  The card base is textured cardstock, although I don’t think the texture shows in the photo.

Be sure to go check out what the rest of the design team has made.  What will you create with these colors?  Share your card with us at the CAS – Colours and Sketches site by 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, February 12.  We’d love to see what you make!

All supplies for this card are from Stampin’ Up.
Stamps: Thoughts & Prayers, Fundamental Phrases
Cardstock: Very Vanilla textured, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Glossy White
Ink: Marina Mist, Pear Pizzazz, Chocolate Chip

Good morning!  Since it’s the first Monday of the month, it’s time for a new challenge at Cards in Envy!  Our challenge should put you in a Valentine mood because the theme for the next two weeks is “Love is in the Air.”

I’ve taken the theme pretty literally with the stamps that I chose. The images and sentiment are from three different Lawn Fawn sets, but they all work very nicely with each other.  The layout is from CAS(E) this Sketch (but I’ve turned it on its side), and I’ve used the colors for this week’s Dynamic Duos challenge.  I’ll be including the card in the next shipment I send to Operation Write Home.

So now it’s your turn! Check out the Cards in Envy site for all the challenge details and to see what the rest of the design team has made. Then share your creation(s) with us by 7:00 p.m. eastern time Sunday, February 16. We’d love to have you play along with us!

Hello!  Can you believe it’s February already?  The first Saturday of the month means it’s sketch challenge time at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown.

I found this adorable little penguin stamp and sentiment at a stamping and scrapbooking store in Florida when we were visiting my husband’s family over the Christmas holidays, and I’ve been wanting to ink it up ever since we got back home.  Today’s card finally gave me the chance to do that.  The scarf is colored to coordinate with the card base and the satin ribbon (and in real life, they really do go well together – it’s just hard for me to capture that in a photo).  I’ve had these snowflake eyelets for a long time, and it’s nice to use up a few of them here.  I’ve stretched out the sketch into an A2 sized rectangle (5.5″ x 4.25″).

I hope you’ll go over to the 52{C}CT website to see what the rest of the design team has made, and to join me in giving a warm welcome to our three newest design team members!  Then show us what you can make with our sketch.  You have until 1:00 p.m. Eastern time Friday, February 7 to link your card.  We hope you’ll participate in our challenge this week!
